The Giants recalled Stevenson from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. With the Giants placing both Brandon Crawford (calf) and Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) on the injured list, San Francisco will bring up Stevenson as one of the reinforcements. The Giants acquired Stevenson from the Athletics on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Oakland booted Stevenson off its 40-man roster last Friday, but the 26-year-old outfielder will end up reclaiming a roster spot in San Francisco. Prior to being designated for assignment, Stevenson hit .348 with two doubles, two RBI, seven runs scored and three stolen bases over 29 plate appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas. The Athletics selected Stevenson's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. He'll start in center field and bat ninth in his MLB debut Wednesday against the Angels. Stevenson will take over the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster spot of designated hitter Jed Lowrie, whom the Athletics designated for assignment in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old Stevenson was acquired from the Rays earlier in the summer in the deal that sent Christian Bethancourt to Tampa Bay, and since joining the Oakland organization, he produced a .305/.417/.542 slash line with three home runs and six stolen bases over 72 plate appearances at Triple-A. The lefty-hitting Stevenson has played all three outfield spots in the minors this season and could get a look as an everyday player in his first taste of the big leagues, though the Athletics will likely try to limit his exposure to southpaws.... Astros' Cal Stevenson: Sent to Houston
Stevenson was traded from the Blue Jays to the Astros along with Joe Biagini and Aaron Sanchez in exchange for Derek Fisher on Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. A 10th-round pick by the Blue Jays in 2018, Stevenson has posted strong numbers in 90 games for High-A Dunedin this season, hitting .298/.388/.393 with five homers and 11 steals. His plate control has been particularly impressive, as he owns a 12.8 percent walk rate and a 13.3 percent strikeout rate. He owns an excellent 114:76 BB:K thus far as a professional.... See More ... Todd Zolecki@ToddZolecki15H agoThe Phillies planned to have Zack Wheeler pitch on normal rest on Tuesday, but yesterday's rainout prevents that. It'll be Spencer Turnbull on Tuesday vs. Reds. Wheeler will pitch Wednesday. Turnbull probably limited to five innings/80-85 pitches.
