Hoeing has been left off the Marlins' roster for their NL Wild Card Series matchup against Philadelphia. Hoeing was a valuable swingman at times this season in Miami, but he surrendered 19 runs -- 18 earned -- over his final 13.2 innings. Johnny Cueto has also been excluded from the roster for this best-of-three series, with the Marlins opting to carry Ryan Weathers instead.... See More ... See Less

Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Lit up in long relief
Hoeing surrendered nine earned runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out one over three innings out of the bullpen in Friday's 16-1 loss to the Brewers. Though he was spared the loss -- which went to fellow reliever Steven Okert -- Hoeing was responsible for most of the damage that occurred in the Brewers' 12-run second inning. He was charged with eight earned runs in the inning, then gave up one more run in the top of the fifth before being pulled from the contest. After the ugly relief outing, Hoeing's season ERA jumped from 4.18 to 5.17.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Hit hard early in no-decision
Hoeing did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk over 4.1 innings against Atlanta while striking out two. Hoeing struggled right out of the gate, allowing hits to each of the first three batters he faced -- two of which went for home runs as Atlanta jumped out an early 3-0 lead. However, the right-hander would actually go on to retire 10 of the next 11 batters he faced before being relieved by Steven Okert with one out in the top of the fifth. It marked Hoeing's longest outing since Aug. 21, and he's now surrendered at least one run in three of his last four appearances, posting a 6:3 K:BB over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Optioned to Jacksonville
The Marlins optioned Hoeing to Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. After the acquisition of David Robertson from the Mets, Miami will send Hoeing to the minors to free up a roster spot. The 26-year-old righty has a 4.57 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through 45.1 frames this season and could return to the Marlins later this season if they need a fresh arm.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Moved to bullpen
Hoeing gave up two earned runs on two hits while striking out one over 1.2 innings out of the bullpen in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Orioles. After making his final four appearances before the All-Star break as a starter, Hoeing looks like he'll settle back into a relief role to open the Marlins' second-half schedule. The Marlins have three off days coming up over the next two weeks and are also likely to get Edward Cabrera (shoulder) back from the injured list at some point during the stretch, lessening the need for Miami to keep Hoeing in the fold as its No. 5 starter.... Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Beat up again in no-decision
Hoeing did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks over three innings against St. Louis. He struck out three. Hoeing managed to get through the first inning unscathed despite allowing a double and two walks on 27 pitches. However, the Cardinals would get to him for five runs in the third, as the right-hander failed to retire five of the first six batters he faced, and he eventually surrendered a two-run blast to Nolan Gorman to top things off. Hoeing has now allowed five or more runs in back-to-back starts, giving up four homers over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Set to start Monday
Hoeing is expected to start Monday against the Blue Jays, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The right-hander started a couple games after being called up by the Marlins in late April, but he's worked out of the bullpen over the past six weeks and has a 3.12 ERA for the season. Hoeing threw 34 pitches over two frames in his previous outing June 12, so he shouldn't be expected to cover more than three or four innings Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Collects first win
Hoeing (1-1) picked up the win Sunday against the White Sox, striking out one in a perfect eighth inning. With his team down 5-3, Hoeing got the call and breezed through the middle of the Chicago order on 13 pitches (eight strikes) before Miami struck for three runs in the top of the ninth. The 26-year-old righty has given up an earned run only once in his last 12 appearances, posting a 0.73 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB through 12.1 innings over that stretch, but his low-leverage role gives him little fantasy appeal.... Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Scratched from start
Hoeing was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Cubs, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The Marlins have yet to announce a reason for the change of plans, but it's likely that Hoeing is dealing with some sort of injury or illness. Matt Barnes will be the first pitcher on the hill for Miami in what will presumably be a bullpen game.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Solid against Cubs
Hoeing did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings in a 4-3 victory over the Cubs. He struck out four. Sunday's start was certainly a step forward for Koenig, who allowed four runs in 3.2 innings in his first outing against Atlanta. He lowered his ERA to 6.23 through 8.2 innings with a 6:3 K:BB. Hoeing has looked good in the minors this year, pitching to a 2.08 ERA with 20:2 K:BB in three starts with Triple-A Jacksonville. He should see at least one more turn in the Marlins' rotation, with Trevor Rogers (biceps) still shut down from throwing.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Ousted after 3.2 innings
Hoeing (0-1) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings against Atlanta. He struck out two. Hoeing took Trevor Rogers' (biceps) spot in the rotation and made his first appearance of the 2023 season. His debut left plenty of room for improvement, although it did come against a tough Atlanta lineup. Through 16.1 career innings in the big leagues, Hoeing has recorded an 11.57 ERA and an 8:7 K:BB, keeping him off the fantasy radar for the time being.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Hit in leg by comebacker
Hoeing exited Thursday's game against the Brewers after getting hit in his right leg by a comebacker off the bat of Willy Adames, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Hoeing faced just two batters before getting hit in his right knee or lower leg. The exact nature of the injury is not yet clear, though even a moderate bruise could end his season with less than a week left to play.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Rejoins big club
Hoeing was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Hoeing was demoted last week after he served as the 29th man for a doubleheader, and he'll return to the big-league club ahead of Sunday's series finale in Washington. The 25-year-old has appeared in three games this year and has given up 12 earned runs with a 4:3 K:BB over seven innings.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Joins big club for doubleheader
The Marlins recalled Hoeing from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. He's being designated as the Marlins' 29th man for Monday's doubleheader with the Rangers, meaning he'll be returned to Triple-A immediately after the twin bill concludes. Hoeing has previously made two appearances (one start) for Miami this season, giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits and one walk over five innings. He'll serve as a long-relief option for the doubleheader.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Sent back down
Hoeing was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday. Hoeing made a two-inning relief appearance Friday against the Dodgers, allowing a run on two hits and no walks while failing to strike out a batter. Although he was more effective than he was when he gave up seven runs in three innings during his major-league debut Aug. 20, he'll head back to the minors after Jake Fishman's contract was selected Saturday.... Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Shelled by Dodges in debut
Hoeing (0-1) took the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two batters over three innings. It's difficult to fault Hoeing for his struggles, as he was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville earlier in the day to make a surprise big-league debut against the MLB's winningest team after scheduled starter Braxton Garrett was placed on the IL with an oblique strain. Still, the 25-year-old was considerably outmatched, allowing three runs in the first inning and four more in the third before being pulled having thrown 73 pitches. Hoeing did at least manage to keep the ball mostly in the strike zone, but he was pummeled for eight hits, including a pair of homers. It's uncertain whether he'll stick in the rotation moving forward or if Miami will develop another plan to account for Garrett's absence. Notably, Trevor Rogers (back) has made a pair of rehab starts at Triple-A and could return to the Marlins' rotation at some point next week.... See More ... See Less
