  • Rays' Colby White: Sent to Triple-A

The Rays optioned White to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. White missed most of last season while finishing up his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he entered spring training healthy and made three appearances with the big club. The right-hander could make his MLB debut at some point this season, but he'll likely need a solid showing at Durham before being called up by Tampa Bay.

  • Rays' Colby White: Arm feels healthy again

White threw his first bullpen session of the spring Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. White missed all of the 2022 season and much of 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He was able to return late last season but struggled with command by compiling just a 36:28 K:BB across 33.1 minor-league innings. White relayed having more confidence in the health of his arm this spring, and he could have the opportunity to reach the majors in a relief role at some point in 2024.

  • Rays' Colby White: Activated, settles at High-A

White (elbow) was reinstated from Triple-A Durham's 7-day injured list Aug. 6 and assigned to High-A Bowling Green, with whom he's produced a 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 4:2 K:BB across five innings over five appearances. White, who opened the season on the shelf while recovering from April 2022 Tommy John surgery, was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on June 6. He was pulled off the assignment less than a week later before returning to FCL action in early July and remaining with the rookie-level affiliate for the month prior to his activation. The right-handed reliever had advanced to Triple-A late in the 2021 season before undergoing elbow surgery, but he looks like he'll need to prove he's regained his command and velocity at High-A before he gets another shot with Durham.

  • Rays' Colby White: Resumes rehab assignment

White (elbow) resumed his rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Friday and recorded two outs via strikeout while allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. White, who is working his way back from April 2022 Tommy John surgery, was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the FCL in early June. However, he made just three appearances before the Rays opted to shut him down for approximately three weeks. After the brief reset, the 24-year-old right-hander looks poised to begin building back up again, and once he gets a few appearances under his belt in the lower levels of the minors, he could be reinstated from Triple-A Durham's 7-day injured list. White occupies a spot on the Rays' 40-man roster and could be a contributor in the big-league bullpen in August or September if he excels once he's back with Durham.

  • Rays' Colby White: Working in Florida Complex League

White (elbow) has returned to the mound and is making appearances in the Florida Complex League. White is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and has been sidelined since the beginning of the 2022 campaign. He's predictably struggled with his command and control, walking four across three innings in his first three appearances. White will likely take a significant amount of time to ramp up on his rehab assignment, but he reached Triple-A Durham in 2021 and could be a candidate to contribute out of the big-league bullpen by the season's end.

  • Rays' Colby White: Sent to minor-league camp

White (elbow) was optioned to minor-league camp by the Rays on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. White is recovering from Tommy John surgery last April, and the right-hander is hoping to contribute sometime over the summer. Because he won't be ready until at least June, there's a chance that White could be moved to the 60-day injured list if Tampa Bay needs room on the 40-man roster.

  • Rays' Colby White: Throws bullpen session

White (elbow) threw his fourth bullpen session Wednesday since undergoing Tommy John surgery, RaysRadio.mlb.com reports. White underwent Tommy John surgery last April and is hoping to be game-ready by June. He was added to the Rays' 40-man roster over the offseason and is a good bet to make his major-league debut at some point in 2023.

  • Rays' Colby White: Undergoing Tommy John surgery

White was placed on the 7-day injured list Tuesday and will undergo Tommy John surgery. White had a strong 2021 campaign in which he progressed from Low-A to Triple-A, but he'll be forced to miss the entire 2022 season following his procedure. He made nine appearances at Triple-A Durham last year, posting a 1.86 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 9.2 innings, and he'll attempt to build upon his success at some point in 2023.
