The Dodgers optioned Hernandez to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Hernandez logged a brief period of time in the majors with Arizona last season, but he spent most of the year at Triple-A Albuquerque and posted a .241/.349/.324 slash line across 298 plate appearances. Hernandez has had a very strong spring, going 8-for-30 at the plate with two RBI and three stolen bases, but he will need to show more at the highest level of the minors before he can contribute to the big-league club.... Dodgers' Yonny Hernandez: Joins Dodgers organization
The Dodgers acquired Hernandez from the Athletics for cash considerations Thursday. Hernandez was ineffective in 28 plate appearances this past season, managing two singles and a .154 OBP. He struggled in 2021 with the Rangers, too, so he figures to provide organizational depth for the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Yonny Hernandez: Loses 40-man roster spot
Hernandez was designated for assignment by the Athletics, the team announced Tuesday. Hernandez was claimed off waivers by the A's last month. The 24-year-old sports just a .521 OPS over 55 major league games.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Yonny Hernandez: Claimed by Oakland
Hernandez (calf) was claimed off waivers by the A's on Thursday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Hernandez finished the season on Arizona's injured list with a calf strain, and he was recently removed from the 40-man roster. The 24-year-old appeared in 12 big-league games in 2022 and went 2-for-24 with two runs and two stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Shut down with calf strain
The Diamondbacks recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Reno and placed him on the 60-day injured list Monday with a strained left calf. Hernandez last played for Reno since Aug. 17 before being placed on the affiliate's 7-day injured list less than a week later, presumably due to the calf strain. Though he now resides on the big club's IL, his placement on the 60-day IL rather than the 10-day IL will officially rule him out for the remainder of the 2022 campaign. Hernandez appeared in 12 games for Arizona earlier in the season but otherwise saw his most extensive action at Reno, where he produced a .244/.353/.328 slash line to go with 30 stolen bases over 295 plate appearances before being shut down with the injury.... Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Recalled by Diamondbacks
Hernandez was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday. Hernandez was sent down by the Diamondbacks on May 22 and has hit .211 with a home run, three triples, two doubles, 22 runs, 16 RBI and 12 stolen bases over 38 minor-league games since then. Despite his lackluster results in Reno, the 24-year-old will rejoin the big-league club to provide infield depth.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Sent to minors
The Diamondbacks optioned Hernandez to Triple-A Reno on Sunday. During his four-day stint with the big club, Hernandez appeared in three games and went 0-for-8 with a pair of strikeouts. The Diamondbacks replaced him on the active roster with third baseman Drew Ellis, who was called up from Reno and will get the start at the hot corner in Sunday's series finale with the Cubs while Josh Rojas (hand) rests.... Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Recalled by Diamondbacks
Hernandez was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Hernandez had been on Arizona's taxi squad recently, but he'll join the active roster as part of a move after Cooper Hummel (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list. Over nine games with the Diamondbacks this year, Hernandez has hit .125 with two runs and two stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Sent down Friday
Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Friday. Hernandez spent a week and a half with the big-league club and hit .125 with two runs and two stolen bases in nine appearances. He'll head to the minors after Nick Ahmed (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Steals second bag
Hernandez started at third base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 11-2 win over the Nationals. The stolen base was Hernandez's second, and the runs were his first, in eight games since being called up from Triple-A Reno. The utility infielder has started four of the last five games at third base, as he and Sergio Alcantara continue to share the position while Josh Rojas (oblique) is unavailable. The hot corner is among the many areas the Diamondbacks need help -- the team's third basemen bring up the rear with a .111 batting average -- but the club seems intent on waiting for Rojas, who recently begun swinging a bat in his rehab program.... Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Makes first start
Hernandez started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over Houston. Hernandez was recently called up from Triple-A Reno after the Diamondbacks optioned Drew Ellis, and Wednesday marked his first start. The moves are part of the team's ongoing carousel at third base. The organization is essentially biding its time until Josh Rojas (oblique) is healthy enough to man the hot corner, but until then, both Hernandez and Sergio Alcantara will get at-bats.... Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Joins big-league club
Hernandez was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Hernandez didn't make Arizona's Opening Day roster after being acquired from Texas in early April, but he'll get his chance not long later. His stat line in his 43-game debut last season was an odd one, as he stole 11 bases and walked at a 10.2 percent clip but also managed a paltry 0.9 percent barrel rate and a 15.9 percent hard-hit rate, leading to a .217/.315/.252 slash line. That speed gives him the potential for fantasy upside, but the complete lack of pop may make it hard for him to earn regular at-bats. He'll take the bench spot that had been occupied by Drew Ellis, who was optioned in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Moved to Arizona
The Diamondbacks acquired Hernandez from the Rangers on Thursday in exchange for outfielder Jeferson Espinal. Hernandez missed out on a spot on the Rangers' Opening Day roster and was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock before Texas elected to move on from him entirely. The 23-year-old is unlikely to see an immediate improvement with his outlook for 2022 as he moves to Arizona, since he's still expected to report to Triple-A Reno with his new organization. Hernandez will occupy a spot on the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster, so he should at least be well positioned for a call-up if Arizona is in need of infield depth at the big-league level at any point this season. Over his 166 plate appearances in the majors with Texas last year, Hernandez hit .217 with zero home runs, 11 stolen bases, 15 runs and six RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: Optioned to Triple-A
Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. Hernandez was in the mix for the starting job at third base early in spring training, but he'll begin the year in the minors after he went 1-for-11 with a double, two RBI, two stolen bases, two walks and two strikeouts across six Cactus League appearances. He should be one of the top options to fill a depth role if the Rangers' infielders deal with injuries in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: In mix to start at third base
Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels said Saturday that Hernandez will have a chance to compete for the starting job at third base ahead of the regular season, Chris Halicke of SI.com reports. Isiah Kiner-Falefa entered spring training as the favorite to serve as the Rangers' starting third baseman on Opening Day, but he was traded to Minnesota on Saturday in exchange for catcher Mitch Garver. Hernandez saw his first major-league action in 2021, and he hit .217 with 15 runs, six RBI and 11 stolen bases across 43 games. Andy Ibanez likely enters camp as the slight favorite for playing time at the hot corner, but it sounds as though Hernandez will be given a chance to carve out at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: Not starting Friday
Hernandez will sit Friday against Cleveland. Hernandez's off days typically comes against lefties, but he'll sit here against righty Eli Morgan. Andy Ibanez starts at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: Not starting Friday
Hernandez is not starting Friday against the Orioles. Hernandez went 2-for-10 with a double and run scored while starting the last three games. He'll yield third base duties to Charlie Culberson against left-hander Alexander Wells on Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: Out of lineup
Hernandez will sit Saturday against the White Sox. Hernandez sits for the first time in a week. He hasn't done much at the plate in his 32 big-league games thus far, hitting .250/.354/.278, though he has helped fantasy teams out with nine steals. Brock Holt will be the Rangers' third baseman Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: Out of Saturday's lineup
Hernandez is not in Saturday's lineup against the Athletics. Charlie Culberson gets the start at third base against lefty Cole Irvin. Hernandez has four steals in 18 at-bats over his last five games and could be a decent source of speed over the final three weeks of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: Steals bag Saturday
Hernandez started at third base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Astros. Hernandez swiped his fourth bag in 17 games since his contract was selected by the Rangers earlier this month. He's had double-digit steals in the minors the last three seasons and could be in line for consistent playing time, after Andy Ibanez was removed from Saturday's game with a hamstring injury. Ibanez had been moving around the infield, including third base. With Brock Holt and Charlie Culberson unavailable due to COVID-19 protocols, Hernandez may be a regular at the hot corner in the short term.... See More ... See Less
