  • Guardians' Adam Oller: Latches on with Guardians

Oller signed a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Guardians on Wednesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. He'll be reunited with new Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, who caught Oller some in 2022 with the Athletics. Oller had a disastrous 2023 season both in the majors (10.07 ERA) and minors (6.22 ERA) but had a solid minor-league track record previously.

  • Mariners' Adam Oller: Sent outright to Tacoma

Seattle outrighted Oller to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. Oller passed through waivers unclaimed after being removed from the Mariners' 40-man roster. The 29-year-old right-hander holds a rough 7.09 ERA and 59:51 K:BB in 94 career major-league innings.

  • Mariners' Adam Oller: Claimed by Mariners

Seattle claimed Oller off waivers from the Athletics on Wednesday, Jessica Kleinschmidt of TheComeback.com reports. Oller, 28, holds a 7.09 ERA over 28 appearances (15 starts) at the big-league level covering the last two seasons and has struggled in 2023 at Triple-A Las Vegas as well, pitching to a 7.11 ERA. He'll report to Triple-A Tacoma with his new organization.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Optioned to Triple-A

Oller was optioned Thursday to Triple-A Las Vegas, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Oller had surrendered 24 runs -- 22 earned -- through 19.2 innings of work this season with the Athletics for a ghastly 10.07 ERA.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Grabs second win Monday

Oller (2-0) got the win in an extra-inning victory over the Angels on Monday, firing two scoreless innings during which he allowed a hit and recorded a strikeout. Oller was making his first appearance since a disastrous five-run outing versus the Cubs over 1.1 innings Wednesday, and the right-hander redeemed himself with a crisp 26-pitch effort that was pivotal to Oakland escaping with just its fifth win of the season. Oller has run the gamut with respect to the quality of his performances during a rollercoaster first month of the season, allowing at least five runs on three occasions and conceding one or none in his other three trips to the mound.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Back in majors

Oller was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Just four days after being optioned to the minors, Oller will return to the major-league roster as Dany Jimenez (shoulder) lands on the 15-day IL. Oller allowed seven runs in 2.1 frames during his last appearance and has historically struggled in the majors, giving him virtually no fantasy value at this point.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Optioned to Triple-A

Oller was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. After surrendering seven runs over 2.1 innings Thursday against Baltimore, Oller earned himself a trip back to the minors. The 28-year-old righty posted a 3.69 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 31.2 innings across seven Triple-A starts last season, and he could find himself bouncing frequently between the minors and the majors in 2023 as the Oakland bullpen needs fresh arms.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Struggles in first start

Oller allowed seven runs on eight hits and one walk over 2.1 innings during Thursday's 8-7 loss to the Orioles. He struck out two and didn't factor in the decision. Oller pitched a 1-2-3 first inning, striking out Cedric Mullins and Ryan Mountcastle. However, it would spiral from there, as he allowed three runs in the second and another four in the third while recording just one out. He managed to avoid a loss as the A's rallied to tie the game 7-7. Oller has a 9.00 ERA with 8:6 K:B in 12 innings this year.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Confirmed to start Thursday

The Athletics have named Oller their starting pitcher for Thursday's game in Baltimore, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Oakland will move to a six-man rotation this week, adding Oller to the mix in order for rookie Shintaro Fujinami to continue making Saturday starts as he transitions from Nippon Professional Baseball to the majors. As a rookie last season, Oller made 19 appearances (14 starts) and struggled to a 6.30 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over 74.1 innings. Since Oller covered five innings and 80 pitches in his most recent relief appearance April 7, he should provide Oakland with a decent amount of length in his first start, but he'll still be tough to trust as a streaming option while he's supported by one of MLB's worst lineups.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Heavy workload in long relief

Oller (illness) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings of relief in a loss to the Angels on Saturday. He also uncorked a wild pitch and recorded a strikeout. Oller had been in contention with JP Sears for the final spot in the rotation to open the season, and based on the former's deployment out of the bullpen Saturday, it seems evident he lost out on the competition. Nevertheless, Oller essentially put in a starting pitcher's workload thanks to Shintaro Fujinami's nightmarish MLB debut that saw him get chased after just 2.1 innings. Oller gave up his fair share of runs as well, but he was able to gobble up some key innings and preserve the arms of several bullpen mates. He'll likely remain ticketed for multi-inning, low-leverage relief assignments for the time being.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Will start year in MLB

Oller (illness) has been informed he's made the Opening Day roster, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Oller will be a part of the A's to begin the season, but the role that he'll have is undefined at this point. Oakland is also planning to carry JP Sears, but Athletics manager Mark Kotsay says the team won't name a fifth starter at this point. It's possible that Oller will be a rotation option, but the right-hander also could be working out of the bullpen in 2023. He's expected to be ready for the start of the season after being scratched Saturday because of symptoms of vertigo.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Battling vertigo

Oller was supposed to pitch Saturday against the Brewers but was held out due to experiencing symptoms of vertigo, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. The timing of the issue means that Oller is potentially at risk for a trip to the injured list if it persists, but if he gets back on the mound in the next few days, he should be fine. He's recorded a 3.68 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 14.2 innings this spring.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Putting together impressive spring

Oller has generated a 1.86 ERA and 10:4 K:BB across 9.2 innings in three Cactus League appearances (two starts). Oller has pitched to some contact -- he's allowed eight hits, including a solo home run -- but his most recent appearance saw him shut out the Dodgers on two hits over four innings while racking up seven strikeouts. The right-hander was frequently hit hard as a 27-year-old rookie last season, posting a 2-8 record, 6.30 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across 74.1 innings over 19 appearances (14 starts). However, with the starting rotation seemingly set, Oller appears ticketed for a long-relief role if he does open the season with the big-league club.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Takes eighth loss

Oller (2-8) took the loss while serving as the opener versus the Mariners on Saturday, allowing three earned runs on three hits, two walks and a wild pitch over one inning. He struck out two. Oller had just come off the injured list Friday, and his first game action since Sept. 3 certainly didn't serve as a soft landing. The right-hander slogged through a 36-pitch opening frame during which he allowed RBI singles to Carlos Santana and Sam Haggerty that drove home three total runs. Oller's rocky outing was a shorter version of his last start before going on the IL, when he'd yielded six runs on eight hits, including four home runs, to the Orioles. It remains to be seen if Oller will get a chance to make at least one more appearance during the final days of the regular season and head into the offseason with some momentum.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Serving as opener Saturday

Oller will serve as an opener during Saturday's game against the Mariners, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Oller was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday after missing nearly a month due to rib costochondritis. While he likely won't be built up to a full workload, he'll begin Saturday's game on the mound while JP Sears presumably serves as a bulk reliever.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Could return by Friday

Oller (ribs) has a chance to return from the injured list by Friday, the Associated Press reports. The right-hander faced live hitters Monday at the A's complex in Arizona without any apparent setbacks. Oller has been on the injured list since Sept. 6, but with the minor-league season coming to an end as well, the team may opt to simply have Oller return without any rehab outings.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Friday bullpen scheduled

Oller (ribs) is slated to throw a bullpen session Friday, the Associated Press reports. Oller began a throwing progression Tuesday, and he's apparently ready to throw off a mound Friday as his next step. Manager Mark Kotsay noted the right-hander will be "on track to be ready to go if everything goes well", seemingly giving Oller, who's already eligible for activation from the IL, a chance to return before the end of the regular season.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Placed on injured list

Oller was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right rib costochondritis, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Oller has given up nine earned runs over his last three starts, and now things get worse for him as he finds himself on the injured list. He is eligible to return starting Sept. 21.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Crushed by Orioles

Oller (2-7) took the loss Saturday versus the Orioles, allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Oller allowed all six runs via four of the Orioles' five home runs in the contest. Ryan Mountcastle had a pair of two-run blasts while Cedric Mullins and Anthony Santander added solo shots. Oller had gone five outings since he last allowed multiple homers. The dismal start raised his ERA to 6.01 with a 1.57 WHIP and 44:37 K:BB through 73.1 innings across 18 appearances (13 starts). Oakland appears set to roll with a six-man rotation, with Oller expected to draw a home start versus the White Sox next weekend.

  • Athletics' Adam Oller: Tosses quality start but takes loss

Oller (2-6) took the loss against Miami on Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two batters over six innings. Oller was in trouble for much of his outing -- he allowed at least one baserunner in each of his first five innings before finally retiring the side in order in the sixth -- but he did relatively well in holding the Marlins to three runs. However, Edward Cabrera tossed a gem for Miami, and Oller was therefore stuck with the loss. The Oakland right-hander continued a recent trend of issuing too many free passes, as his five walks were a season high and marked the third time in his past four outings he has walked at least three batters. Oller does have consecutive quality starts for the first time this season, but he'll need to show better control to win games consistently.
