  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Pitching well in spring

Pallante has pitched three scoreless innings over three appearances in Grapefruit League play. He's allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two. Pallante struggled to a 4.76 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 43:30 K:BB over 62 relief appearances in 2023 after splitting time between the rotation and bullpen in 2022. Pallante added 13 holds last year, but his poor play saw him in a low-leverage role to end the campaign. He'll be looking to get back into the late-innings mix in a crowded bullpen competition for the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Decent in September

Pallante allowed one run on four hits over one inning during Saturday's 15-6 win over the Reds. Pallante allowed five runs over 13.2 frames in September, an improvement on the 12 runs (11 earned) he allowed in 13.2 innings during August. The right-hander has seen some high-leverage work in 2023, earning 13 holds, but just four of those have come since the start of August as he's worked in more of a middle-relief assignment. Pallante has a 4.76 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 43:30 K:BB over 68 innings this season, a significant downturn from the 3.17 ERA he recorded over 108 innings as a swingman in 2022.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Snags win

Pallante (4-1) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned the win Wednesday over the Padres. Pallante erased the hit with a double play, keeping the Cardinals within a run of the Padres in the ninth inning. Tommy Edman then delivered a walk-off two-run home run. This was just the fifth scoreless outing in 12 appearances in August for Pallante, who has still held onto a somewhat high-leverage role despite his lackluster recent performance. The right-hander has a 5.13 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 39:24 K:BB with 11 holds and five blown saves over 54.1 innings this season. With Ryan Helsley (forearm) nearing a return, Pallante could soon find himself in more of a middle-relief role.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Collects win

Pallante (3-1) allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one over 1.1 innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Diamondbacks. Pallante has had a rough July, allowing seven runs over 8.2 innings this month. The right-hander has been scored on in four of his eight appearances in that span, but he was able to emerge with his first win since May 13. He's at a 4.78 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 31:20 K:BB through 37.2 innings overall. Pallante has added nine holds and five blown saves, though he could move up the leverage ladder a bit if Jordan Hicks is traded before Tuesday's deadline. Giovanny Gallegos would have the most to gain in that scenario.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Opening Game 1 on Saturday

Pallante will open Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against Washington, John Denton of MLB.com reports. After Friday's game was suspended during the third inning, Pallante will take the mound once action resumes Saturday. The 24-year-old righty has pitched at least two innings just once this season, so he'll presumably be relieved relatively quickly.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Handed first loss

Pallante (2-1) allowed a run on two hits and struck out one without walking a batter over one inning, taking the loss Monday versus the Marlins. Pallante allowed an inherited runner to score the tying run, then gave up another run in the seventh inning in relief of Miles Mikolas. Over 9.1 innings in July, Pallante was tagged for four runs on eight hits and eight walks. He's been fortunate to avoid taking a loss prior to Monday, as he has an uninspiring 4.11 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 28:16 K:BB through 30.2 big-league innings this season. The right-hander has added eight holds and three blown saves -- he's seen more high-leverage work with Ryan Helsley (forearm) on the injured list.

Pallante (2-0) allowed a hit and struck out one over one scoreless inning in Saturday's 4-3 win against the Red Sox. The Cardinals produced a comeback win for the second game in a row, and Pallante was the beneficiary after their three-run rally in the ninth inning. Pallante (6-5) allowed a run on two hits in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Thursday versus the Nationals. Pallante's had a rough start to September, allowing six runs over 1.2 innings across three appearances. He was tagged with his first loss since July 5, which was back when he was still in the Cardinals' rotation. The right-hander's misstep Thursday was discouraging, but he still has a 3.27 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP and 69:35 K:BB through 99 innings across 38 appearances (10 starts). He's added seven holds, but he'll likely see lower-leverage assignments while he's struggling.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Earns win over Yankees

Pallante (5-4) allowed three hits and two walks over four scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Yankees. Making his first relief appearance since June 15, Pallante delivered an excellent outing to keep the Cardinals in the contest after a lackluster start from Dakota Hudson. Manager Oli Marmol hinted after the game that Hudson's spot in the rotation could be up for grabs, with Pallante the most likely candidate to fill it, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Pallante has excelled in a versatile role this year, logging a 3.03 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 61:29 K:BB across 86 innings in 29 appearances (10 starts). Hudson's spot in the rotation comes up again next week in Colorado, which would likely be a daunting assignment for either pitcher.

The 23-year-old righty set new career bests with his eight innings and eight punchouts. Pallante will carry a 3.18 ERA into his projected home outing against the Yankees next week.

The right-hander was replaced after the fourth inning, leaving the game in a 3-3 tie. Pallante has had a difficult July, producing a 7.85 ERA over four starts during the month. The tough stretch has his season numbers up to a 3.53 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 74 innings in 27 appearances, including nine starts.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Collects third win

Pallante (3-4) earned the win during Friday's 7-3 victory over Cincinnati, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Pallante surrendered two runs on three hits in the first inning and another run on three baserunners in the third but retired nine of 10 Reds in the other three frames. The five strikeouts matched a season best for the 23-year-old rookie, though Pallante has struggled through three July starts with 13 runs and 29 baserunners permitted through 14.1 innings. His season numbers are still solid and feature a 3.34 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 47 strikeouts in 70 innings across 26 appearances and eight starts.

The final run came on a Kyle Schwarber solo shot to lead off the fifth. In two starts in July, the 23-year-old has allowed 10 runs on 19 hits, including three homers, in 9.1 innings. He owns a 2.10 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 33:22 K:BB in 55.2 innings across 23 appearances (five starts) overall. The rookie right-hander is projected for a road start in Atlanta next week.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Takes loss in relief

Pallante (2-1) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with one strikeout over 2.1 innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Pirates. As expected, Pallante made a relief appearance Wednesday with the return of Jack Flaherty (shoulder) from the injured list. This was the rookie right-hander's first loss in 20 appearances (two starts). He's been effective with a 1.46 ERA, 1.41 WHIP And 25:17 K:BB through 37 innings overall. If the Cardinals stick to their original plans, Wednesday's outing amounted to a between-starts live bullpen session for Pallante, who is expected to be available to start as soon as Sunday versus the Red Sox.
