Brito is officially back in pro ball less than two years after suffering an on-field brain hemorrhage while playing in a game for the Triple-A affiliate of the Phillies on July 31, 2021. He is only 25 years old and might eventually get another shot with a major-league organization, but for now he'll play in independent ball.

Brito's future in baseball appeared to be in jeopardy after he collapsed on the field July 31 while playing for Triple-A Lehigh Valley before undergoing a pair of brain surgeries that left him hospitalized for 59 days, but the 24-year-old looks as though he'll be able to resume his playing career. Because he'll still have to clear several more medical checkpoints before getting the green light to play in games, Brito is unlikely to be ready for the start of the minor-league season. Still, Wednesday's news is undoubtedly a positive development for Brito.

Doctors have yet to clear Brito to play again after he required a 59-day stay in an intensive care unit following a scary on-field incident that occurred July 31, but the 24-year-old Phillies farmhand is determined to make it back on the field. After Philadelphia re-signed him to a minor-league deal over the winter, Brito will be able to conduct his rehab under the supervision of the organization, despite having no clear timeline for if or when he'll be ready for full baseball activities. He had appeared in eight games for Lehigh Valley last season following his promotion from Double-A Reading, where he slashed .296/.363/.457 across 275 plate appearances.
