  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Sent out of big-league camp

The Mets reassigned Waddell to minor-league camp Sunday.

Waddell joined the Mets on a minor-league deal in December following a three-year stint overseas that featured stints stops with the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization and Rakuten Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Though New York's rotation depth has already taken a couple of notable hits this spring due to injuries to Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat), Waddell didn't impress enough over his two Grapefruit League outings (5.40 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and 1:2 K:BB in 3.1 innings) to make a compelling case for an Opening Day gig. Waddell will slot into the rotation at Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Could be next man up in rotation

Waddell might be an option for the Mets' rotation this season, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

New York has already seen Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat) go down this spring, with both pitchers expected to begin the season on the injured list. If the spate of injuries continues, Waddell could find himself in the mix for some March or April starts. The 30-year-old southpaw hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021, spending the last three years in the KBO, and after signing him to a minor-league contract in December, the Mets would need to find room for him on the 40-man roster in order to add him to the big-league rotation.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Inks MiLB deal with NYM

Waddell agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mets on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Waddell hasn't seen any MLB action since 2021 during stops in Minnesota, St. Louis and Baltimore, and he's spent the last three seasons overseas with the Doosan Bears of the Korean Baseball Organization. The southpaw has revitalized his career in the KBO, posting a 2.98 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with a 215:65 K:BB through 144.1 innings over this three-year stretch. Waddell will be a strong candidate to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Brandon Waddell: Re-signs with KBO team

Waddell re-signed Thursday with the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization, Jee-ho Yoo of Yonhap News reports.

It's a one-year, $1 million contract. Waddell headed overseas in July of 2022 and has since registered an impressive 2.92 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 140:54 K:BB across 169.2 innings (29 starts) in the KBO. The now 29-year-old left-hander posted a 5.68 ERA in 11 career major-league relief appearances between 2020-21.

  • Brandon Waddell: Heads overseas

The Cardinals sold Waddell's contract to the Korea Baseball Organization's Doosan Bears on Wednesday.

According to Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency, Waddell will earn $230,000 for the remainder of the 2022 KBO season while pitching for Doosan. Waddell made nine relief appearances in the majors between three different teams in 2021, but he's pitched exclusively at Triple-A Memphis in the Cardinals organization in 2022. Over 30 innings at Triple-A, he posted a 3.30 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Outrighted off roster

The Cardinals outrighted Waddell to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

St. Louis never formally announced that Waddell was designated for assignment, but he evidently went unclaimed on waivers and will remain in the organization. Waddell will lose his place on the 40-man roster, however, with his spot going to fellow reliever Andre Pallante, who earned a spot in the Cardinals' Opening Day bullpen.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Optioned to Triple-A

Waddell was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Waddell rejoined the Cardinals' bullpen Wednesday but didn't make any appearances during his latest stint with the major-league club. He'll head back to Memphis after right-hander Jack Flaherty (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Recalled by Cardinals

Waddell was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Waddell returned from the COVID-19 injured list in Memphis last weekend, and he tossed three scoreless innings across three relief appearances since then. The southpaw recorded a 4.15 ERA and 2.08 WHIP in 4.1 innings across four appearances with the Cardinals this year and should be available as a low-leverage reliever.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Returns from virus-related absence

Waddell made his return from Triple-A Memphis' COVID-19 injured list Friday and appeared out of the bullpen Saturday, striking out two and allowing a hit in a scoreless inning.

Waddell's relief appearance was his first with either Triple-A or St. Louis since July 9, as the 27-year-old had been shut down on two occasions due to virus-related health and safety protocols. He looks like he's healthy again as the season winds down, but Waddell's extended absence may be enough to take him out of the running for a promotion to the big club in September.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Lands on COVID-19 list

Waddell (undisclosed) was placed on the COVID-19 list Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Waddell tested positive for the virus in mid-July and spent a month on the COVID IL before being activated last weekend, and he'll return to the specialized IL without appearing in a game. The southpaw hadn't felt well enough to pitch since he returned last weekend, and he'll now be unavailable until he clears the health and safety protocols once again, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Returns from IL

Waddell (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The 27-year-old had been on the virus-related list since July 16 after testing positive for COVID-19. Waddell has appeared in four games for the Cardinals, allowing two earned runs on four hits and five walks in 4.1 innings of relief work.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Placed on COVID-19 IL

Waddell was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday.

Waddell had been optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, but his placement in the COVID-19 protocols means he'll revert to the MLB team's injured list. It's not clear if the left-hander has tested positive for the virus or if he was just exposed to someone who did. Fellow southpaw T.J. McFarland was called up from Memphis in a corresponding roster move.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Tests positive for COVID-19

Waddell has tested positive for COVID-19, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Waddell was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday, and he'll be away from the team for at least 10 days following his positive test result. The southpaw is experiencing mild symptoms, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to game action.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Optioned to Triple-A

Waddell was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Waddell made four appearances during his latest big-league stint, allowing two runs in 4.1 innings while striking out six and walking five. He now owns a 6.75 ERA and 2.46 WHIP in 9.1 innings of relief this season.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: So far, so good with Cardinals

Waddell, who fired 1.2 scoreless innings during which he allowed a hit and a walk while recording a strikeout in a loss to the Rockies on Sunday, has scoreless efforts in each of his first two appearances with the Cardinals since being recalled from Triple-A Memphis last Monday.

The left-hander got a fresh start with the Cardinals after so-so tenures with the Twins and Orioles to begin the season, and he's been effective over the small sample of 2.2 frames in St. Louis. Waddell had only 3.1 innings of big-league experience coming into the season, so while his handedness makes him a potentially valuable matchup-based asset for manager Mike Shildt, his exposure to high-leverage scenarios will likely be limited early.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Recalled by Cardinals

Waddell was recalled by the Cardinals on Monday.

Waddell made major-league appearances with the Twins and Orioles to begin the year, and he posted a 9.00 ERA in five innings across five outings. The southpaw will now be available to make his team debut for the Cardinals, but he should serve mainly as a low-leverage reliever.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Finds new organization

The Cardinals claimed Waddell off waivers from the Orioles on Sunday and assigned him to Triple-A Memphis.

Waddell will move on to his third organization of the season after being waived by the Twins earlier in 2021. The 27-year-old lefty has made five relief appearances at the big-league level between Minnesota and Baltimore this season, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits and four walks over five innings.

  • Orioles' Brandon Waddell: DFA'd by Orioles

Waddell was designated for assignment by Baltimore on Friday.

The 27-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Twins in early May and spent less than a week in the majors for the Orioles, making one appearance. Waddell could remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

Waddell was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.
