  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Set for season debut Friday

Montgomery will make his Diamondbacks debut Friday in San Francisco, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Montgomery was not sharp in his final tune-up start with Triple-A Reno on Saturday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He served up two home runs in the outing. Montgomery got his pitch count up to 71, though, and as long as he bounces back with no issues he'll join Arizona's rotation next week. It will be either Tommy Henry or Ryne Nelson bumped from the rotation when Montgomery returns, and Nelson stated his case to stay Saturday with six innings of one-run ball versus the Cardinals.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Makes debut for Reno

Montgomery allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings for Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

Montgomery, who threw 60 pitches, made his debut in game action after signing with the Diamondbacks late in spring training. The goal was get through four innings and 65 pitches, so mission accomplished on both fronts for the left-hander. A normal five-day routine lines up Montgomery to throw again Friday (April 12) then next Wednesday (April 17). The pitcher earlier this spring targeted his Arizona debut for April 19, which falls outside the five-day routine, given his appearance Sunday.

Montgomery is scheduled to make a start with Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Montgomery tossed three innings and 50 pitches in a simulated game Monday at the Diamondbacks' spring training facility and is ready to move on to an official game setting next. The left-hander has said he's aiming for April 19 as the date of his first start with the big club, which would point to one additional start in the minors after Sunday before he joins Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Officially signs, sent to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks announced Montgomery's one-year, $25 million contract Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Reno.

The left-hander's deal also includes a vesting option for 2025 that's worth up to $25 million, depending on how many starts he makes this season. After being without a team for all of spring training, Montgomery will build up at Triple-A before making his Diamondbacks debut, which he said will likely come around April 19, per Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Reaches deal with Arizona

Montgomery agreed to terms on a one-year, $25 million contract with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Montgomery had been rumored to be in talks with the Yankees regarding a potential reunion, but he will instead join the Diamondbacks with only two days left before the start of the regular season. Adding the 31-year-old southpaw will provide the D-backs with insurance in their rotation with Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) set to miss the first several weeks of the year. Because Montgomery was without a team all offseason and therefore missed spring training, he will likely sit out the first couple of turns through the rotation but should be able to make his Diamondbacks debut within a few weeks. Montgomery's new deal also includes a vesting player option for 2025 if he starts at least 10 games this season.
