  • Dodgers' David Freitas: Reassigned to minor-league camp

Freitas was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Dodgers on Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Freitas slashed .239/.310/.345 last season with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate before being released in early July. He's made the most of his spring training opportunities, posting a .967 OPS in 18 plate appearances, but he's not much more than an organizational depth piece behind major-leaguers Will Smith and Austin Barnes.

  • Dodgers' David Freitas: Joins Dodgers on MiLB deal

Freitas signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Thursday. Freitas joined the Yankees on a minor-league deal for 2022 and had a .655 OPS at the Triple-A level before he was released in July. The 33-year-old has 59 games in the big leagues under his belt and hasn't played at the highest level since 2019.

  • Yankees' David Freitas: Lands MiLB deal with Yanks

Freitas signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Dec. 14. After a brief stint in the Korean Baseball Organization to begin 2021, Freitas returned stateside last summer, joining the Rays on a minor-league deal. He elected free agency after the season and was able to catch on with another American League East club on a minor-league pact. Freitas is expected to join the Yankees for big-league spring training, but he'll most likely be headed for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to Opening Day.

  • Rays' David Freitas: Joins Tampa Bay

Freitas signed a minor-league contract with the Rays on July 24. Freitas returned stateside after he was released from his contract with the Korea Baseball Organization's Kiwoom Heroes in late June. The veteran catcher is currently playing for the Rays' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, but he'll likely report to Triple-A Durham within the next couple of weeks.

  • David Freitas: Heading to Korea

Freitas agreed to a one-year, $600,000 deal with the Kiwoom Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization on Friday, Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports. The 31-year-old was set to be one of six catchers on Milwaukee's 40-man roster entering spring training, so he'll opt to head to Korea for the 2021 campaign instead. Freitas has a .200/.268/.288 slash line in 59 big-league appearances but he's expected to mostly serve as a designated hitter for the Heroes while also seeing time at first base and behind the plate.

  • Brewers' David Freitas: Gets spot on postseason roster

The Brewers added Freitas to their 28-man roster Wednesday ahead of the wild-card series with the Dodgers, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Injured pitchers Brett Anderson (finger) and Devin Williams (shoulder) were left off Milwaukee's roster, opening spots for Freitas and outfielder Ben Gamel. Freitas is expected to serve as the Brewers' No. 3 catcher behind Jacob Nottingham and Omar Narvaez.

  • Brewers' David Freitas: Optioned to minors

Freitas was optioned to Triple-A San Antonio on Wednesday. Freitas was in camp competing for a backup catcher spot but never seemed likely to win a role, as both Omar Narvaez and Manny Pina appeared to be safely ahead of him. If he does spend any time on the big-league roster this season, it's unlikely to be in a fantasy-relevant role. The 31-year-old has played just 59 games at the highest level, hitting .200/.268/.288 with one home run.

  • Brewers' David Freitas: Competing for roster spot

Freitas went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's split squad game against the Angels. Freitas got off to a slow start this spring, but he doubled twice and knocked in three runs over his last three appearances. Even if he ends the exhibition season on a high note, his season will likely begin in the minors with both Omar Narvaez and Manny Pina comfortably ahead of him on the depth chart.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Sent back to minors

Freitas was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. Friday's acquisition of Tom Murphy from the Giants meant Freitas was no longer needed at the major-league level, and indeed the catcher was sent down to Triple-A Tacoma to clear room for Murphy on the 25-man roster. It's a bit of unfortunate news for the 30-year-old considering he scored a run and hit an RBI sacrifice fly in Thursday's opener against the Red Sox. Freitas was expected to build upon his 2018 numbers (.215/.277/.312 with a home run in 36 games) after the departure of Mike Zunino during the offseason, but evidently it'll be Murphy and Omar Narvaez who will benefit from the available playing time.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Pair of hits in start

Freitas went 2-for-3 with a double in a loss to the Orioles on Tuesday. Just recalled from Triple-A Tacoma, Freitas came through with one of only two multi-hit efforts for the Mariners. The 29-year-old excelled with the Rainiers, but his playing time during September is expected to be sporadic with both Mike Zunino and Chris Herrmann ahead of him.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Rejoins Mariners for stretch run

Freitas was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Freitas had a couple stints in the majors this season but only managed a .549 OPS in 78 at-bats. The 29-year-old crushed the ball for the Rainiers this season, slashing .349/.428/.527, and will serve as the Mariners' third catcher for their potential playoff push.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Shipped to minors

Freitas was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. Freitas' demotion comes after No. 1 backstop Mike Zunino (ankle) was activated from the 10-day disabled list. During his two-and-a-half-week stint with the Mariners, Freitas appeared in six games, going 2-for-18 at the plate.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Smacks solo home run in win

Freitas went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in a win over the Angels on Wednesday. The backup catcher took Jaime Barria deep for his first round tripper of the season in the third inning, opening the scoring on the night. Freitas and Chris Herrmann are currently holding down the fort behind the dish while Mike Zunino (ankle) remains out. However, with Zunino likely back in time to start the second half of the season July 20, Freitas is presumably a candidate to return to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Returned to minors

Freitas was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. Chris Herrmann was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move and will reclaim his role as the Mariners' backup catcher. Freitas made just four appearances during his most recent stint with the big club, going 3-for-14 with seven strikeouts. He'll continue to serve as organizational catching depth.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Brought back to majors

Freitas was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. Freitas was summoned to the majors to take the roster spot of Chris Herrmann (ribs), who was sent to the disabled list in a corresponding roster move. He's expected to serve as the team's backup catcher while Herrmann is sidelined. The 29-year-old hit .217/.321/.304 across 19 games with the big club earlier in the year. Freitas will be active for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Returns to majors

The Mariners recalled Freitas from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The Mariners placed starting catcher Mike Zunino (oblique) on the 10-day disabled list Friday, opening the spot for Freitas. Mike Marjama should serve as Seattle top option behind the plate in the meantime, with Freitas slated to serve as the team's backup catcher.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Optioned to Triple-A

Freitas was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports. Over the course of the spring, Freitas went 5-for-21 (.238) over 11 games for the Mariners. While he had a chance to make the team's Opening Day roster, Freitas will begin the upcoming season with Tacoma. However, if Mike Marjama doesn't deliver in his reserve role behind Mike Zunino, Freitas could appear in the show during the year.

  • Mariners' David Freitas: Claimed by Seattle

Freitas was claimed off waivers by the Mariners on Friday. Freitas appeared in just six games for the Braves this past season, going 4-for-17 with two doubles and two RBI during his first taste of the big leagues. The 28-year-old catcher spent a majority of the year with Triple-A Gwinnett, slashing ,263/.338/.356 with three home runs and 21 RBI in 71 games with the team. Moving forward, he will provide depth behind Mike Zunino in Seattle, and is a solid candidate to join the club out of spring training.

  • A's send David Freitas to Orioles to complete Jim Johnson trade

The Athletics announced Thursday that they have sent catcher David Freitas to the Orioles as the player to be named later in the trade that brought Jim Johnson to Oakland earlier in December. Freitas hit .268/.355/.381 with one home run and nine RBI in 110 at-bats with Triple-A Sacramento last season in his first exposure to the minors' highest level. He also hit .214/.285/.362 in 246 at-bats with Double-A Midland.

  • Michael Taylor misses out on roster

The Oakland Athletics pared down their roster Sunday, optioning outfielders Grant Green and Michael Taylor to Triple-A Sacramento. Both players were in the running for a spot on the opening day roster this spring, but could make an appearance with the parent club at some point during the season. The Athletics also reassigned pitcher Brian Gordon, catcher Dave Freitas, first baseman Scott Moore, shortstop Dawrin Perez and outfielder Michael Choice to their minor-league camp.
