Barnhart, who went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Friday's Cactus League game against the White Sox, is now batting just .071 this spring. Barnhart has one hit in 14 Cactus League at-bats and has struck out three times. The catcher only batted .221 over 94 games with the Tigers last season, so the Cubs weren't expecting a ton of offense from the offseason addition, though a slight uptick in production would be welcome. Barnhart figures to split time behind the plate with Yan Gomes, though the latter could emerge as the primary option if he hits better.... See More ... See Less

Cubs' Tucker Barnhart: Signing with Cubs
Barnhart agreed to a one-year, $3.25 million contract with the Cubs on Thursday, which includes a $3.25 million player option for 2024, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Barnhart spent the 2022 campaign with Detroit and had the worst offensive season of his career with a .554 OPS in 94 games. The defensive-minded backstop should platoon with Yan Gomes in Chicago following the departure of Willson Contreras.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Registers three hits in win
Barnhart went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored and two RBI in Thursday's 10-3 win over the Royals. Barnhart is batting just .221 this season, but he managed to provide a nice offensive boost Thursday. It was the catcher's fourth three-hit effort of the year and his second in September. Barnhart may see a few more starts in relief of Eric Haase before the season wraps up, and he's unlikely to provide much more fantasy value.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Starting Sunday
Barnhart is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Royals. Barnhart enters the lineup with Eric Haase getting a breather in the series finale. This will be Barnhart's first game action since Tuesday, as he's settled into a clear backup role behind Haase. Barnhart hasn't provided much offense when he has played, with a middling .213/.281/.258 slash line across 83 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Hits solo homer in loss
Barnhart went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's loss to the Royals. Barnhart launched a solo shot in the fifth inning, but the Tigers were behind 9-1 at the time, and it would turn out to be their final score of the game. For Barnhart, it was his first homer of the season. This has not been a productive season for the catcher who is likely to see his lowest run, home run and RBI totals outside of a 54 at-bat rookie year and the shortened 2020 season.... See More ... Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Hits first 2022 home run
Barnhart went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Royals. Barnhart hit his first home run of the season in the fifth inning and added his eighth double for good measure. The catcher had just seven homers last year, so power wasn't really expected, though his OPS has also dropped from .685 to .547. As a result of Barnhart's offensive struggles, Eric Haase (abdomen) has overtaken him as the primary option behind the plate for the Tigers.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Out of Sunday's lineup
Barnhart is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. Manager A.J. Hinch has alternated his starting catcher over the past five games, and that trend will continue Sunday after Barnhart went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Saturday's contest. Eric Haase will work behind the plate and bat fifth in the series finale at Texas.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Out of lineup
Barnhart will sit Friday against Texas. Barnhart is slashing just .208/.268/.240 on the season, though he's managed seven hits in his last six games. Eric Haase will start behind the plate Friday.... See More ... See Less -

Barnhart is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Giants. Barnhart will take a seat after he went 1-for-8 with a run scored in the final two games of the Angels series. Eric Haase will take over behind the plate and bat fourth in the series opener.... See More ... See Less -

Barnhart isn't starting Wednesday against the Guardians. Barnhart started the last two games and went 4-for-7 with two RBI, a run and a walk. Eric Haase will take over behind the plate and bat sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Starts again after big game
Barnhart will start at catcher and bat eighth in Tuesday's game in Cleveland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Barnhart will be rewarded with a second straight start after going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run in Monday's 7-5 win over the Guardians in the second game of a doubleheader. He had already seemed to push his way back into a timeshare at catcher with Eric Haase, and Barnhart's superior defense should continue to earn him a fair amount of playing time even if his bat cools off from here.... Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Playing time on rise
Barnhart went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Twins. Barnhart appeared to lose hold of the primary catching job to Eric Haase shortly before the All-Star break, but the two seem to have moved into more of a timeshare lately. The Tigers will go with Barnhart behind the dish Wednesday for the third time in four games, while Haase is included in the lineup as the team's designated hitter as Miguel Cabrera gets a maintenance day.... Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Starting series finale
Barnhart is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Barnhart will pick up the start with Eric Haase getting a breather in the series finale. Haase has overtaken Barnhart as the team's primary catcher, largely due to his superior offensive performance. Haase has a .729 OPS and eight home runs across 64 games, while Barnhart has just a .496 OPS and no home runs across 63 games.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Remains on bench
Barnhart will sit Sunday versus the Guardians. Barnhart will sit for the second game in a row Sunday as the Tigers wrap up their final game before the All-Star break. Eric Haase, who may have overtaken Barnhart as Detroit's preferred option behind the plate, will start at catcher and bat fourth in the series finale.... See More ... See Less -
