Solano went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and four RBI in an 8-2 win against Houston on Wednesday. Solano kicked off the scoring with a two-run single in the third inning and followed with a two-run double in the sixth. Incredibly, the four RBI nearly matched Solano's season total (five) through 44 games coming into the contest. Needless to say, the veteran hasn't been much of a run producer this season, though he's slashing a respectable .275/.356/.350 over 135 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

Twins' Donovan Solano: Makes cameo off bench Monday
Solano went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and played seven innings at second base in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Giants. Heading into Monday's game, Solano had been scheduled to start at first base, only for the Twins to scratch him from the starting nine prior to first pitch without an explanation. The Twins' decision to scratch Solano may have had something to do with the Giants deploying a right-hander (John Brebbia) as their opening pitcher, as the righty-hitting Solano went on to pinch hit for the lefty-hitting Edouard Julien when lefty primary pitcher Sean Manaea came on in relief of Brebbia. Solano should continue to see most of his opportunities moving forward as a short-side platoon player.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Donovan Solano: Scratched from Monday's lineup
Solano was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants, Randy Johnson of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. It's unclear why Solano was dropped from the starting nine, but he will not open on the field as scheduled and Joey Gallo will do so instead.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Donovan Solano: Sits after three straight starts
Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Solano started each of the past three games at first base, going 0-for-8 with three strikeouts to drop his season-long average to .253. The Twins recalled the lefty-hitting Alex Kirilloff from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, and he'll enter the lineup at first base Sunday against Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill. Kirilloff could end up seeing the bulk of the playing time versus righties moving forward, though Solano will likely remain a mainstay in the lineup versus southpaws.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Donovan Solano: Back to bench in Gallo's return
Solano is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. After picking up starts at either designated hitter or first base in each of the past 13 games, Solano will head back to the bench Wednesday as the Twins welcome Joey Gallo (intercostal) back from the injured list. Gallo will most likely settle back in as the starter at first base versus right-handed pitching, but the righty-hitting Solano should remain a fixture in the lineup against southpaws.... See More ... Twins' Donovan Solano: Handling everyday gig at first base
Solano will start at first base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the White Sox. Solano is picking up his eighth consecutive start Wednesday, with the last seven coming at first base. With Joey Gallo (intercostal) recently joining Alex Kirilloff (wrist) on the injured list, Solano looks like he'll have a clear path to a regular lineup spot until one of the two injured players returns. Solano takes a six-game hitting streak into Wednesday's contest and should be a strong source of batting average while he's playing regularly, but his fantasy utility is limited in just about every other category.... Twins' Donovan Solano: Gets sixth straight start
Solano will start at first base and bat fifth in Monday's game against the White Sox. Due to various regulars getting days off in addition to Joey Gallo (side) having now been sidelined for three straight games, Solano will stick in the lineup for the sixth consecutive contest. When the Twins are at full strength, Solano will likely fade into a short-side platoon role, but he looks like he could be in store for a quasi-everyday role in the short term. He'll take a four-game hitting streak into Monday's series opener.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Donovan Solano: Stays hot in spot duty
Solano started at first base and went 1-for-3 with walk in Saturday's win over Kansas City. He's hitting .313 (5-for-16) this season. Solano has started the last four games at DH and first base amid several injuries (Max Kepler, Joey Gallo). He may remain in the starting lineup while he stays hot, but ultimately should return to a reserve role.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Donovan Solano: Set to make roster
Solano started at DH and went 1-for-4 with a home run in Monday's spring training win over Pittsburgh. He's hitting .158 with a .509 OPS this spring. Despite his underwhelming hitting stats this spring, Solano is set to make the roster as a utility infielder. He could get some extra playing time in April with both Jorge Polanco and Alex Kirilloff set to begin the season on the injured list. However, he's likely the secondary option off the bench as both Kyle Farmer and Nick Gordon can move around the infield as well. Solano did play some first base this spring and could get a few starts there as well.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Donovan Solano: Signs one-year deal with Minnesota
Solano agreed to a one-year deal on Tuesday with Minnesota, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Solano spent the 2022 campaign with the Reds after spending the three previous seasons with the Giants, and the 35-year-old slashed .284/.339/.385 with four homers and 24 RBI over 304 plate appearances. The right-handed-hitting infielder has shown the ability to hit for average with a .301 clip over the last four seasons, but he's homered just 18 times over 316 games in that timeframe while stealing just two bases. Solano should be a utility option for the Twins that sees time all over the infield, particularly against left-handed pitching, but he profiles as a one-category player for the 2023 season.... Reds' Donovan Solano: Managing eye infection
Solano was scratched from Friday's lineup against Milwaukee due to an eye infection, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Solano was removed from Friday's starting nine a few hours before the start of the game, and his availability off the bench is unclear. He should be considered day-to-day for now, but Spencer Steer will start at first base and bat second Friday.... See More ... See Less -

Jake Fraley will serve as the Reds' designated hitter in place of Solano on Monday.... See More ... See Less

Phil Miller@MillerStrib4D agoDonovan Solano's two-run single is the Twins' first bases-loaded hit since May 13 and first bases-loaded RBIs since May 15. Snapped an 0-for-15 drought and lifted them to .129 (6 for 47, all singles) this year.

Phil Miller@MillerStrib19D agoDonovan Solano has now faced Clayton Kershaw more times than any other pitcher in his career, 31 PAs. And, well, he's not intimidated. Solano's 2 hits tonight bring his average to .414 (12-for-29), the highest Kershaw has allowed to any opponent w/ at least that many ABs.
