Ryan Palmer has missed the cut in nine of the 15 PGA events he's participated in this season, but he might be a surprise name in the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson field to turn things around this weekend. Palmer finished tied for 35th at the Wells Fargo Championship, but tied for fifth at last year's Byron Nelson. He would be a stunning champion this year, as he is 150-1 to win in the latest 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson odds listed on Caesars Sportsbook.
A win this weekend would also be his first since the 2010 Sony Open in Hawaii. He'll have to outplay other 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson contenders like Scottie Scheffler (9-2), Tyrrell Hatton (14-1), Jason Day (18-1) and two-time defending champion K.H. Lee (18-1). The first tee times come at 7:50 a.m. ET on Thursday. Before locking in your 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.
Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $8,400 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner.
In addition, the model included Nick Hardy and Davis Riley in its best bets to win the 2023 Zurich Classic. That bet hit at +4500, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned over $1,100. McClure's best bets also included J.T. Poston winning outright at the 2022 John Deere Classic, even though he was listed as a massive 55-1 longshot.
This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.Â
Now that the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson field is locked, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson predictionsÂ
One major surprise the model is calling for at the AT&T Byron Nelson 2023: Lee, the two-time defending champion, stumbles this week and barely cracks the top 10. Lee joined elite company last year when he successfully defended his AT&T Bryon Nelson title, joining Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson as the only golfers to do so in the tournament's history.Â
He can become the 10th man since World War II to win an event on the PGA Tour three straight years, but the model is not high on his chances. Lee has struggled with consistency this season, finishing outside the top 20 in 12 tournaments. He also ranks 91st in putts per round (28.76) and 97th in one-putt percentage (40.30%), which does not bode well against several elite golfers in the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson field.Â
Another surprise: Matt Kuchar, a 35-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. Kuchar hasn't won a PGA event since 2019, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. While he has been winless for the past few seasons, he's come close to taking home some silverware a few times this year; most recently at the Valero Texas Open, where he finished tied for third.
Over his last four tournaments, he has been exceptionally strong on and round the green. During that stretch he has averaged .862 strokes gained: putting and .950 SG: around the green. He's also compared favorably to the field with his accuracy off the tee (+4.3%), so he should be positioned to play well once again this weekend. See who else to pick here.Â
