  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Remains in lineup

Petry recorded an assist and blocked a shot in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Capitals. After being questionable for the game due to an illness, Petry remained in his regular spot on the second pairing with partner Simon Edvinsson. Petry finished with one shot, three hits, one blocked shot and an even rating in 19:56 of ice time. This was only the second point for Petry in March. While he still plays top-four minutes for the Red Wings, the 36-year-old cannot be relied upon for producing points at this stage of his career.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Available against Washington

Petry (illness) will play Tuesday versus the Capitals, Max Bultman of The Athletic reports. Petry is expected to skate on the second pairing against Washington. He's tallied 19 points through 62 games this campaign.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Dealing with illness

Petry (illness) is questionable for Tuesday's contest against the Capitals, according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press. Petry didn't participate in Monday's practice and could end up being a game-time decision versus Washington. He has produced two goals, 19 points, 118 blocked shots and 118 hits across 62 outings this season. If Jake Walman (lower body) isn't ready to return Tuesday, Justin Holl could take Petry's spot in the lineup.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Manages helper in loss

Petry recorded an assist in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins. This was the first point in eight games for Petry, who has struggled with a minus-9 rating over that span. He's been physical with 18 hits and 23 blocked shots amid the slump, but the Wings need more out of pretty much everyone, as they are 2-10-0 over their last 12 games. For the season, Petry has two goals, 17 assists, 112 hits and 114 blocked shots in 59 games, which aren't numbers that jump off the page.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Shot attempt leads to assist

Petry earned a secondary assist in Monday's 4-3 overtime win over the Kraken. Petry fired the puck through heavy traffic, and a fortuitous deflection off teammate J.T. Compher culminated in a Lucas Raymond tally at the doorstep. Not every helper will be pretty, but it all looks the same in the box score, as Petry is up to 14 assists and 16 total points through 46 games. The veteran defenseman continues to work on the second defensive pair, albeit while lacking opportunities on the power play.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Adds helper in OT win

Petry delivered an assist in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Canucks. Petry provided a no-frills pass in the defensive zone, spurring forwards David Perron and Lucas Raymond, with the latter deking goalie Casey DeSmith at the doorstep to open the scoring. At 36 years old, Petry is averaging a career-low 18:39 of ice time in his debut season with the Red Wings. He's posted two goals, 13 assists, 56 hits and 77 blocked shots through 42 games, which probably isn't enough to put him on the fantasy radar outside of deep leagues.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Picks up two apples

Petry registered two assists to complement a plus-3 rating in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Kings. This was one of Petry's best performances since joining the Red Wings ahead of this season. The 36-year-old veteran is averaging a career low in ice time (18:26), and it's an especially stark contrast to the 22:21 of rink run the defenseman saw with the Penguins last year. Petry has two goals, 11 assists and a plus-4 rating through 33 games; he's occasionally been thrust into power-play action but is still looking for his first man-advantage point donning the Winged Wheel.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Lights lamp Thursday

Petry scored a goal on three shots, logged three hits and added two PIM in Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Kings. Petry had gone three games without a point while missing two contests -- one as a scratch and the other due to injury -- in that span. The 36-year-old played Thursday in a seven-defensemen lineup with Andrew Copp (lower body) out. Petry, Olli Maatta and Justin Holl are the blueliners the Red Wings have most frequently cycled out of the lineup. Petry has two goals, nine assists, 37 shots on net, 40 hits, 50 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating and offers the most fantasy upside of the three part-timers.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Expected to return Friday

Petry (upper body) should return to the lineup Friday versus Nashville, per Max Bultman of The Athletic. Petry has been a disappointment offensively this season as he has only one goal and nine assists in 27 games. Petry was not available Wednesday in Minnesota after he was injured versus New Jersey on Saturday in the final game before the Christmas break. Look for Petry to be paired with Ben Chiarot in his return to action.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Unavailable Wednesday

Petry (upper body) is set to miss Wednesday's game against Minnesota, according to Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News. Petry sustained the injury during Saturday's 3-2 loss to New Jersey. He has a goal, 10 points, 34 hits and 49 blocks in 27 outings in 2023-24. With Petry out against the Wild, Justin Holl is likely to draw back into the lineup.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Exits game due to injury

Petry won't return to Saturday's game against New Jersey because of an upper-body injury. Petry was injured when he collided with teammate Christian Fischer, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. Both players left the contest as a result of the incident. Petry entered Saturday's action with a goal, 10 points, 34 hits and 49 blocks over 26 outings in 2023-24. If he isn't available Wednesday versus Minnesota, then Justin Holl might draw back into the lineup.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Sets up late-game equalizer

Petry delivered an assist in Friday's 7-6 shootout win over the Flyers. The Red Wings permitted five straight goals between the second and third periods, but Petry did his part to force overtime. He dumped the puck off to Dylan Larkin with the Detroit captain scoring a seemingly impossible goal from behind the net. Petry is averaging a career-low 18:37 of ice time, and he may end up disappointing fantasy managers who recall his four consecutive seasons with at least 40 points from 2017-18 to 2020-21. He only has one goal and 10 points over 26 contests this campaign.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Nets first goal of campaign

Petry scored a goal in Monday's 4-3 home loss against the Ducks. Petry's goal was his first of the season, and he opened the scoring at 2:29 of the second period to slice the lead to 4-1, beginning the comeback. He finished with a minus-1 rating, three shots on goal, two blocked shots and a hit in 17:32 of ice time. The veteran rearguard had managed just two assists in the past 13 games, and his playing time has been dwindling. Perhaps this goal will jump-start things for the veteran.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Seeing less ice time with Detroit

Petry is averaging a career-low 18:48 of ice time in his first season with the Red Wings. The Wings are content with Petry on the second pair with Ben Chiarot, as those defensemen have reunited following their two-and-a-half years together as members of the Canadiens between 2018-21. Petry is averaging just 42 seconds of ice time on the power play this season and is still seeking his first goal with Detroit, but he's helping out in other areas based on eight assists, 30 hits, and 45 blocked shots through 21 games.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Supplies two helpers in victory

Petry recorded a pair of assists in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jackets. Petry led the Red Wings with 24:16 of ice time and easily had one of his best games donning a red and white sweater. The veteran defenseman has six helpers through 10 contests, though it's worth noting Petry overcame an upper-body injury that surfaced in October, and he is still searching for his first goal this season.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Cleared to return

Petry (upper body) will return to action versus the Bruins on Saturday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Petry is expected to return to a third-pairing role following his three-game absence. The 35-year-old vet has collected two helpers through four contests this campaign.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Won't return Thursday

Petry (upper body) will miss Thursday's game versus Winnipeg but is likely to return for Saturday's contest against Boston. Thursday's match will be Detroit's third straight game without Petry. The 35-year-old defenseman has two assists, six PIM, seven hits and four blocks in four contests this year. When Petry's back, Olli Maatta might serve as a healthy scratch.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Dealing with upper-body issue

Petry (upper body) won't be available for Tuesday's game versus the Kraken, Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News reports. Petry is considered day-to-day with the injury. The veteran defender has collected two assists through four contests this season.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Registers two assists

Petry recorded two assists, two blocked shots, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Penguins. Petry did some damage against his former team, helping out on second-period tallies from Ben Chiarot and Andrew Copp. It's a good response from Petry after he was a healthy scratch Monday versus the Blue Jackets. The 35-year-old defenseman had gone pointless in his first two appearances, and he's added four shots on net, seven hits, three blocked shots, six PIM and an even plus-minus rating through three contests. Petry's spot in the lineup is obviously not guaranteed -- he'll compete with the likes of Justin Holl and Olli Maatta for playing time.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Acquired by Detroit

Detroit acquired Petry from Montreal on Tuesday in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional 2025 fourth-round pick. The Canadiens will retain 50 percent of Petry's remaining salary. The 35-year-old blueliner produced five goals, 31 points, 113 shots on net, 111 blocked shots and 190 hits in 61 games for Pittsburgh last season. The Penguins traded him to Montreal on Aug. 6 in a three-team deal to acquire Erik Karlsson from San Jose. Petry could be utilized as a top-four defender by the Red Wings during the 2023-24 campaign.
