Spiller had seen his role increase a bit over the past four weeks after regularly logging DNP-CDs earlier in the campaign, but he's back to being held out for the Chargers' final game of the campaign. The running back will thus finish his second NFL season with 37 carries for 96 yards and six catches on six targets for 34 yards over nine contests. Austin Ekeler and Joshua Kelley will man the backfield for Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Chargers struggled to get anything going on the ground as they averaged just 86 rushing yards on 24 carries across seven different ballcarriers. Head coach Brandon Staley had alluded to the Chargers' ground attack evolving into a more competitive scenario prior to Week 14, but Austin Ekeler had remained the clear lead back in Los Angeles' loss to the Broncos on Sunday. However, that changed drastically in Thursday's lopsided contest, with Spiller outpacing Ekeler by 11 carries. Spiller wasn't able to do much with the opportunity, however, and given he saw 16 rush attempts, the highly unusual game script can't really be blamed. With the team's season seemingly lost and Staley potentially coaching his last few games in Los Angeles, it remains to be seen how the workload in the ground attack will be distributed in a Week 16 home matchup against the Bills on Saturday, Dec. 23.

Spiller had a season high in rushing yards and attempts, and out-snapped second-string running back Joshua Kelley by five. Considering the 22-year-old has only played in six games to date, it's unclear if the additional workload will be permanent moving forward, or just a one-week oddity. The wild card in all of this is Joshua Kelley (knee), who could return before the season ends. But for now, stash Spiller where available if you have an open roster spot in deeper leagues.
