In 14 games for the Colts during the 2023 regular season, Sermon rushed 35 times (including 17 carries in Week 15) for 160 yards to go along with three catches for 13 yards. With Zack Moss now with the Bengals, Sermon will have a chance to carve out a complementary role behind starter Jonathan Taylor in 2024, but chances are Indianapolis will add further backfield depth via free agency or the draft.

That's what happened in Week 15 against Pittsburgh with Taylor out and when Moss got hurt. I'd lean toward Sermon as the one to add, but both Colts running backs are worth monitoring in case Taylor and Moss can't play in Week 16.

Sermon racked up 88 yards on 17 carries during Saturday's 30-13 win versus the Steelers.
Prior to Week 15, Sermon had just 11 rushes through his first 11 appearances of the campaign, but after Zack Moss (arm) exited early in the second quarter, the former earned the second-highest carry count in a game in his three-year career. Even subtracting his game-high 19-yard scamper, Sermon still averaged 4.3 yards on his 16 other rushes. Also out of the Colts backfield Saturday, the elevated Tyler Goodson totaled 13 touches for 79 yards from scrimmage. The top of Indianapolis' RB depth chart includes question marks for both Jonathan Taylor (thumb) and Moss, but there seems to be a chance for the former to return next weekend. If neither are available, though, Sermon and Goodson likely would be the team's primary runners Sunday, Dec. 24 in Atlanta.

Sermon also had four catches for 26 yards on six targets in what may have been an audition for other teams. Sermon didn't exactly knock it out of the park, but much of that isn't his fault given that the Colts played a lot of starters and the Eagles used none. If nothing else, Sermon is one of the running backs most likely to get claimed next week after teams make roster cuts.
