  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Facing competition from Swift

Herbert is part of a backfield that's set to add D'Andre Swift on a three-year, $24 million contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Herbert has outperformed his draft slot since the Bears took him in the sixth round in 2021, averaging 4.9 yards on 364 carries. He's typically worked in timeshares and has just 43 receptions in 42 games, and it's not exactly surprising to see the cap-flush Bears brining in a more versatile running back. This isn't the worst outcome for Herbert's value given that the Bears were previously rumored to have interest in Saquon Barkley -- who is joining the Eagles -- but it does leave Herbert with a lot of snap/touch competition for the final year of his rookie contract, competing against Swift and 2023 fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Underwhelming in season finale

Herbert rushed 12 times for 28 yards and caught two passes for 13 yards in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Herbert came into Week 18 having posted at least 121 scrimmage yards in each of his last two games. Facing a middling Packers defense, Herbert was unable to help Chicago sustain consistent offense. In 12 games played this season, Herbert rushed for 583 yards and two touchdowns and added 18 receptions for 121 yards and another score. With two years left on his rookie contract, the Bears will need to decide if Herbert can be their lead back or if he's best used as part of a committee.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Suiting up as expected Sunday

Herbert (back/personal) is active for Sunday's game against the Packers. Reports earlier Sunday indicated Herbert was strongly trending toward active status, and that is now official. With D'Onta Foreman a healthy scratch for a second consecutive week, Herbert should once again serve as the clear lead back for Chicago, with rookie Roschon Johnson holding down his usual complementary role.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Likely to play Sunday

Herbert (back/personal) is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Packers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Herbert remains listed as questionable for the contest, but he looks like he'll be formally cleared to play when the Bears release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. He was added to the Bears' Week 18 injury report Thursday after practicing as a limited participant and then missed Friday's practice entirely, but the expectation is that Herbert will be ready to handle the lead role out of the backfield for Chicago. Herbert has delivered his best two rushing performances of the season over the past two weeks in wins over Arizona and Atlanta, carrying 38 times for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Iffy for season finale

Herbert is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers due to a back injury as well as a personal matter. Herbert was added to the Bears' injury report Thursday after he was a limited participant in practice that day on account of the back issue, but the personal matter might have been the cause of his absence from Friday's practice. Whatever the case, Herbert is now uncertain to be available for the Bears' season finale, with a final word on his status set to arrive when Chicago posts its inactive list 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. Roschon Johnson and D'Onta Foreman -- who was a healthy inactive for the Week 17 win over Atlanta -- would likely see expanded profiles out of the backfield if the Bears are without the services of Herbert, a late-season fantasy standout with 38 carries for 236 yards and two touchdowns over the last two weeks.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Dealing with back issue

Herbert was limited at Thursday's practice due to a back injury. Herbert is making a midweek appearance on the Bears' Week 18 injury report after having no limitations whatsoever to kick off the week Wednesday. It's unclear if his availability for Sunday's game at Green Bay is in danger, but how he fares at Friday's session could be telling for his status. Herbert is coming off back-to-back 100-yard, one-touchdown efforts on the ground, so Chicago could be missing a big part of its offense if he's inhibited or even sidelined this weekend. Roschon Johnson and D'Onta Foreman would be next up in the team's backfield.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: RBs to Start

It's worked out well for the Bears and Fantasy managers that Herbert has taken over as the No. 1 running back over the past two games, and he should remain in that role in Week 18 at Green Bay. In his past two outings against Arizona and Atlanta, Herbert has scored at least 19.1 PPR points in each game with 38 carries for 236 yards and two touchdowns and three catches for 14 yards on five targets over that span. He now has 12 games in his career with at least 13 total touches, and he's scored at least 15.7 PPR points in eight of them. He scored 11.4 PPR points against Green Bay in Week 1, and the Packers have allowed a running back to score at least 12.1 PPR points in five of their past six games, including three running backs with at least 21.3 PPR points during that time.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Another big game

Herbert rushed 18 times for 124 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches on three targets for five yards in the Bears' 37-17 win over the Falcons on Sunday. Herbert took advantage of being the lead back for the Bears with D'Onta Foreman (coach's decision) inactive for the second straight week. In each of those games, Herbert recorded at least 121 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. If Chicago chooses to leave Herbert in the lead role in Week 18 against the Packers, he could be in line for another strong performance to end the season.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: RBs to Sit

D'Onta Foreman is back in Week 17 after missing Week 16 with a personal matter, and now we have a three-headed backfield again in Chicago with Foreman, Herbert and Roschon Johnson. With Foreman out in Week 16 against Arizona, Herbert was a star with 20 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 9 yards on two targets. That was an easy matchup against the Cardinals, but now the Bears have to face a tough defense for Atlanta. The Falcons are No. 2 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, and Jonathan Taylor in Week 16 is the lone running back to rush for a touchdown against Atlanta this year. With Foreman back, I would avoid the Bears backfield completely in Week 17.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Week 17 Adds (RB Preview)

Herbert put up a season-high 112 yards rushing in Week 16 against the Cardinals. The Falcons are a more difficult matchup, but we'll also be watching to see if D'Onta Foreman returns. if Foreman is out, view Herbert as a low-end No. 2 running back or a very good flex.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Week 17 Waiver Priority List

D'Onta Foreman missed Week 16 against Arizona due to personal reasons, and we'll see if he can return in Week 17 against Atlanta. If he's out again then consider Herbert a borderline No. 2 running back in all leagues. He was great against the Cardinals with 20 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown, along with one catch for 9 yards on two targets. He dominated Roschon Johnson in touches (21-12) and yards from scrimmage (121-53), but Johnson (52 percent rostered) is worth a look in deeper leagues if Foreman remains out. The problem for Herbert will be what Chicago does with Foreman if he's back, and the Falcons are No. 2 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs. That said, his performance against Arizona should help his cause in keeping him on the field, and Fantasy managers can trust him as a potential flex if Foreman is still away from the team.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Racks up 21 touches in Week 16

Herbert took 20 carries for 112 yards and one touchdown and hauled in one of two targets for nine yards during Sunday's 27-16 win over the Cardinals. With D'Onta Foreman out due to a personal matter, Herbert and Roschon Johnson were the likely options to handle most of the backfield reps for the Bears in Week 16. The scale ended up tilting Herbert's way, as he dominated Johnson in touches (21-12) and yards from scrimmage (121-53). Prior to Sunday's outburst, Herbert hadn't fared well in four appearances since missing five due to a high-ankle sprain, averaging 2.4 yards on his 31 rushes while tallying five catches (on six targets) for 24 yards. It's unclear what kind of role he can expect the next time Foreman is available, but Herbert may be worthy of rostering again in the event the former misses more time.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Poor showing in Cleveland

Herbert carried the ball six times for eight yards and caught his only target for four yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Browns. The Bears' backfield committee didn't provide much fantasy value in this one, as rookie Roschon Johnson was the only one of the three RBs to deliver any kind of useful numbers with 60 scrimmage yards on nine touches, while D'Onta Foreman's longest carry went for just two yards and he wound up with minus-six rushing yards on his six totes. Herbert should remain in the mix, but with Chicago looking ahead to 2024, Johnson could emerge as the top option of the trio for the final weeks of the current campaign.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Limited to three carries

Herbert rushed the ball three times for eight yards in Sunday's 28-13 loss to the Lions. Herbert saw his role slip significantly with the return of D'Onta Foreman (ankle), as he worked in a clear backup role. He's been held to 35 or fewer rushing yards in three consecutive games since returning from injured reserve, and that streak looks unlikely to change in Week 15 against Cleveland.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Eight touches in Week 12 win

Herbert rushed six times for 24 yards and brought in both targets for 14 yards in the Bears' 12-10 win over the Vikings on Monday. Herbert entered the game atop the running back depth chart with D'Onta Foreman (ankle) sidelined, but rookie backfield mate Roschon Johnson outpaced Herbert by four carries and three receptions. The third-year pro had logged double-digit rush attempts in three straight contests before Monday's downturn, but with Foreman potentially back in action Week 14 against the Lions following the Week 13 bye, Herbert heads into the Bears' pause in play with some newfound uncertainty surrounding his role.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Set for lead role Monday

Herbert is in line to be the Bears' lead running back Monday at Minnesota after the team ruled out D'Onta Foreman (ankle/shin) for the contest Sunday, Larry Mayer of the team's official site reports. Foreman didn't have much leeway to be available Week 12 due to Chicago giving him a doubtful tag for Monday's game. Now that Foreman officially won't make the trip to Minnesota, Herbert will have to compete for RB reps with only Roschon Johnson and Travis Homer. On the season, Herbert has averaged 13.2 touches for 66 yards from scrimmage per game while recording one receiving TD in six appearances.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Inefficient on 16 rushes in return

Herbert (ankle/shin) rushed 16 times for 35 yards and caught two of three targets for six yards in Sunday's 31-26 loss to the Lions. Herbert's first action since Week 5 coincided with quarterback Justin Fields' return from a dislocated thumb that had kept him out since Week 6. D'Onta Foreman (ankle) began the game as the lead back but exited soon after halftime, opening the door for Herbert to handle 18 touches, but Herbert averaged a meager 2.3 yards per touch. Foreman will have an extra day to heal before the Bears visit the Vikings on Monday Night Football in Week 12, and rookie Roschon Johnson has also been mixing in, but Herbert could find himself back in the lead role despite struggling in his return.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Returning to action Sunday

Herbert (ankle/shin) is active for Sunday's game at Detroit. One day removed from the Bears activating him from IR, Herbert officially is available to the backfield for the first time since Week 5. He'll be working with D'Onta Foreman, who racked up 88 touches during Herbert's five-game absence. Prior to suffering a high-ankle sprain, though, Herbert was utilized heavily in Weeks 4 and 5, turning 32 touches into 198 yards from scrimmage and a receiving TD. There's a decent bet a timeshare between Herbert and Foreman comes to pass to keep both players in the game plan.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Tending to shin injury in Week 11

Herbert, who remains on injured reserve, was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to ankle and shin injuries. Herbert has missed the Bears' last five games while recovering from a right high-ankle sprain, but he was listed as a full participant on all three of the Bears' practice reports last week upon being designated for return from IR. Since the Bears played on Thursday night in last week's win over Carolina, Herbert was expected to be ready to play this Sunday in Detroit with a more typical week of prep time, but the fact that he's now dealing with a shin injury may affect those plans. The Bears haven't revealed whether the shin issue was something he sustained during Wednesday's practice, or if he emerged with the injury following Week 10 prep. Either way, Herbert may need to resume practicing in full capacity by Friday in order for the Bears to feel confident about adding him back to the 53-man roster this week.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Won't return Week 10

The Bears didn't activate Herbert (ankle) from injured reserve ahead of Thursday's game against the Panthers, Chris Emma of 670TheScore.com reports. After the Bears designated Herbert for return from IR on Monday, he was listed as a full participant on all three of the team's Week 10 injury reports. Despite the estimated activity level, though, he won't make his first appearance since Week 5, when he initially sustained a high right-ankle sprain. In the meantime, D'Onta Foreman will continue to lead Chicago's backfield, with Roschon Johnson and Darrynton Evans mixing in behind him. Herbert's next chance for game action is Sunday, Nov. 19 at Detroit.
