  • Trace McSorley: Let go by Pittsburgh

McSorley was cut from the Steelers' practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. McSorley joined the Steelers' practice unit in early December after starting quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered an ankle injury, but with Pickett now healthy, it appears as if the team no longer needs McSorley around. The 28-year-old will now look for his next opportunity elsewhere.

  • Trace McSorley: Joins Steelers' practice squad

Pittsburgh signed McSorley to its practice squad Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The move comes in the wake of reports Kenny Pickett underwent surgery to address his high ankle sprain Monday. Mitch Trubisky projects to start Thursday versus the Patriots, and Mason Rudolph is also on standby, but McSorley could suit up as an emergency option as soon as this week.

  • Cardinals' Trace McSorley: Set to return to No. 2 role

McSorley will serve as Arizona's backup quarterback Sunday at Atlanta after head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Wednesday that Colt McCoy cleared the concussion protocol and is on track to start this weekend, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. After coming on in relief for a concussed McCoy in the Week 15 loss to the Broncos, McSorley drew his first career start Week 16 against the Buccaneers. He proved to be mistake-prone in the Cardinals' 19-16 overtime loss, committing three turnovers (one interception, two lost fumbles) while completing just 24 of 45 passes for 4.8 yards per attempt. Even though the 27-year-old McSorley has more theoretical upside of the two quarterbacks at this stage of his career and the 4-11 Cardinals have little on the line in the final two games, Kingsbury will turn the offense back over to the more battle-tested McCoy as Arizona looks to end the season on a high note.

  • Cardinals' Trace McSorley: Starting Sunday night

McSorley has been named Arizona's starting quarterback for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury made the announcement Wednesday after ruling out Colt McCoy, who suffered a concussion during Sunday's 24-15 loss to Denver in his first start since Kyler Murray suffered a season-ending ACL tear. McSorley completed seven of 15 passes for 95 yards and two interceptions in relief, and with that fresh in mind it's possible he could be benched for recently signed David Blough if he struggles again this Sunday. McSorley had only one carry for eight yards last week, but he offers potential for rushing stats given that he ran a 4.57-second 40-yard dash time coming out of Penn State in 2019. He accrued 30 rushing touchdowns during his time at college, and his dual-threat abilities were a key factor in the Ravens selecting him with a sixth-round pick in 2019 to serve as a backup to Lamar Jackson.

  • Cardinals' Trace McSorley: Week 16 Waiver Priority List

This is only for desperate Fantasy managers in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues since McSorely was awful stepping in for Colt McCoy (concussion) in Week 15 against Denver, but McSorely could start again in Week 16 against the Buccaneers if McCoy is out. McSorely was 7-of-15 passing for 95 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in relief. Good luck if you need him.

  • Cardinals' Trace McSorley: Won't play Sunday

McSorley (illness) is inactive Sunday against the Chargers. McSorley missed practice Friday due to the illness, and he's still apparently feeling under the weather. However, with Kyler Murray back under center and Colt McCoy still considered the team's No. 2 quarterback, McSorley's absence should not impact the team Week 12.

  • Trace McSorley: Inks practice squad deal

The Cardinals signed McSorley to their practice squad Wednesday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. As expected, McSorley returns to the organization after clearing waivers. The Penn State product will operate as an emergency depth option behind Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Could be ready for Week 1

Coach John Harbaugh said Thursday that McSorley (back) may be available by Week 1, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. McSorley resumed throwing Thursday, which is a notable step in the right direction for his recovery. The third-year pro has already been ruled out for the remainder of the preseason, but when healthy he remains the favorite to operate as Lamar Jackson's backup.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Bothered by back spasms

McSorley was bothered by back spasms in Saturday's preseason opener against the Saints, Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun reports. He completed 11 of 18 passes for 86 yards and an interception while adding 25 yards on four carries prior to being replaced by Tyler Huntley. McSorley got the start with Lamar Jackson getting the night off. He failed to lead the offense to a first-half touchdown but the Ravens managed three field goals during McSorley's time in the game. Huntley came in at halftime and led the game-winning touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. McSorley will look to heal up in time to face the Panthers in Week 2 of preseason.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: In backup mix

General manager Eric DeCosta expects McSorley (knee) and Tyler Huntley to compete for the backup quarterback job this offseason, Clifton Brown of the Ravens' official site reports. "We think both [McSorley and Huntley] have a legitimate chance to compete for that backup position," DeCosta said. "It doesn't mean that we won't go after a veteran quarterback, but we think both those guys have pretty bright futures, and we see a good competition this year." McSorley saw action in two games for the Ravens in 2020, providing a spark in each. He suffered a minor knee strain back in December, but he's expected to be ready for the tentative start of offseason activities later this year.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Lands on IR

McSorley (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. McSorley suffered a minor knee sprain in Monday's 47-42 win over the Browns, and he'll be required to sit out for the rest of the regular season. In the meantime, practice squad quarterback Tyler Huntley should serve as Lamar Jackson's backup until either McSorley or Robert Griffin (hamstring) is activated from IR.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Set to undergo MRI

McSorley is believed to have suffered a knee sprain in Monday night's win over the Browns and will undergo an MRI to confirm, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. McSorley went down awkwardly trying to run for a first down Monday and was forced to leave the game. The belief is that McSorley's injury is not season-ending, but that won't be known for certain until the results of the MRI are revealed. Baltimore already has Robert Griffin (thigh) on injured reserve, so the team's depth behind Lamar Jackson would be in an untenable situation if McSorley is unavailable for even one game.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Set for backup duties

McSorley is active and should be Baltimore's No. 2 quarterback Tuesday against Dallas with Lamar Jackson also suiting up. McSorley saw his first game action of the season last week against the Steelers after Robert Griffin (hamstring) went down with injury, but Jackson is back after testing positive for COVID-19 and appears ready to start Tuesday. McSorley is poised to be the Ravens' No. 2 quarterback for at least the next three games with Griffin on injured reserve.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Likely to start if Jackson can't

McSorley will be the Ravens' presumptive starter at quarterback Tuesday against the Cowboys if Lamar Jackson (illness) isn't activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list prior to the contest, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. McSorley currently is the only quarterback on the Ravens' 53-man roster, as Robert Griffin, the team's Week 12 starter, was placed on injured reserve Friday after injuring his hamstring in Wednesday's 19-14 loss to the Steelers. The 2019 sixth-round pick came on in relief of the injured Griffin in the contest, completing two of six attempts for 77 yards and a touchdown while carrying three times for 16 yards. If Jackson continues to test negative for the coronavirus, he'll be eligible to rejoin the roster as soon as Sunday, but McSorley will stay prepared to start in the event Baltimore's top signal-caller can't clear the protocol. The Ravens would presumably promote Tyler Huntley from the practice squad to back up McSorley if Jackson remains out for Week 13.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Could play in Week 17

Coach John Harbaugh said both Robert Griffin and McSorley could play in Sunday's game against the Steelers. McSorley -- a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft -- has yet to make his regular-season NFL debut. However, the Ravens have locked up the No. 1 playoff seed in the AFC, so likely MVP Lamar Jackson, among other top players, will get a week of rest. McSorley played four preseason games, completing 56.7 percent of passes for 533 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Not playing Week 1

McSorley is inactive for Sunday's season opener against the Dolphins. McSorley won't play a role in Baltimore's offense Week 1 with Robert Griffin set to serve as the top backup to Lamar Jackson. The rookie sixth-round pick impressed down the stretch in the preseason, but he lacks a clear path to rise above the QB3 gig.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Solid in preseason finale

McSorley completed 15 of 27 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown during Thursday's 20-7 preseason win over Washington. He added eight yards on two carries. McSorley continued his steady improvement throughout the preseason, completing his second consecutive game without a turnover all while making some big throws, including a 24-yard shot to Jaleel Scott to give Baltimore a second-quarter lead. His frenetic style makes him a nice option to develop as Lamar Jackson's backup, but, given Jackson's own inexperience, it would be foolish to look anywhere else outside of Robert Griffin for the top backup job. McSorley figures to be destined for the practice squad or, at best, QB3.

  • Ravens' Trace McSorley: Filling in for injured RG3

McSorley is left as the No. 2 quarterback after Robert Griffin suffered a thumb injury, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. With a recovery estimate of 4-to-8 weeks, Griffin is in danger of missing the regular-season opener. Baltimore is sure to sign a third healthy quarterback soon, but the new addition won't necessarily unseat the rookie sixth-round pick. McSorley completed 59.3 percent of his passes at Penn State, making up for it with a 77:25 TD:INT rate and 30 rushing touchdowns in 46 games. Greg Roman's run-heavy offense in Baltimore is the one NFL scheme McSorley might be able to handle as a rookie, though he'd still be a downgrade from starter Lamar Jackson.

  • Trace McSorley: Lands with Ravens

The Ravens selected McSorley in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 197th overall. McSorley is a hyper-competitive quarterback who was a consistent winner at Penn State. He lacks the ideal size for an NFL quarterback, checking in at 6-foot and 202 pounds with an average arm. However, McSorley has an athletic profile (4.57 40-yard dash, 7.09 3-cone drill) that could get him on the field if the Ravens ever want to use a two-quarterback package. Some wonder if a position switch could be in McSorley's future, but for now, he profiles as Baltimore's third-string quarterback.
