  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Game-time call for Sunday

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday that Golden (undisclosed) will be a game-day decision for Week 1, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. The extent of the injury remains unclear, but Golden didn't appear in any of the Cardinals' preseason contests. The 2015 second-round pick recorded 48 tackles and 11 sacks last year, so his potential absence would be a big blow to Arizona's defense, which faces a stiff test against the Chiefs on Sunday.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Shifts to 53-man roster

Golden was activated off the commissioner's exempt list Saturday and has joined the Cardinals' 53-man roster, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. The Cardinals traded for Golden last week, but he had a roster exemption until he cleared the COVID-19 protocols. He's been cleared and will begin preparing for the Week 9 matchup against the Dolphins. The team hopes Golden will bolster the pass rush that has taken a hit with Chandler Jones (biceps) done for the year. Golden certainly appears up to the task, as he produced 10 sacks over 16 games with the Giants in 2019.

  • Giants' Markus Golden: Signs tender with Big Blue

Golden signed his one-year, $4.125 million unrestricted free-agent tender with the Giants on Tuesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. The little-used tag allowed Golden to seek another employer, but because he didn't get another offer by July 22, he was required to stay with the Giants. Now locked in for the 2020 season, he's the leading returning sack artist for the team, having racked up 10 sacks in 16 games, which was the second time he reached double-digit sacks while playing a full slate. As for his other three campaigns -- when he didn't -- he combined for 6.5 sacks in 30 contests.

  • Giants' Markus Golden: Reports to camp

Golden (illness) has reported to Giants training camp, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Before he can take part in the strength and conditioning portion of camp, Golden is required to log three negative COVID-19 tests in four days, at which point he'll take a physical and sign his unrestricted free-agent tender worth $4.125 million. For his career, he has two campaigns of double-digit sacks. As for the other three, he combined for 6.5 sacks in 30 games. After going for 10 sacks last season, Golden returns to the Giants looking to lead the team in the category for a second straight season.

  • Giants' Markus Golden: Given UFA tender

The Giants have placed the UFA tender on Golden, Field Yates of ESPN reports. The terms of the UFA tender dictate that Golden can only play for the Giants in 2020 if no other team opts to sign him by July 22. He notched 72 tackles (37 solo) and 10 sacks across 16 games with New York in 2019, but it remains to be seen if the team's new coaching staff wants to utilize Golden as a starter or simply a rotational pass rusher.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Returning after long recovery

Golden (knee) is listed as active Sunday versus the Bears, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Nearly one year removed from tearing the ACL in his left knee, Golden's recovery has come full circle. Assuming he takes the field, he likely will have a limited snap count to ensure he doesn't put too much stress on the knee. That said, premier pass rusher Chandler Jones finally has a running mate to chase down opposing quarterbacks.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Questionable for Sunday

Golden (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Bears, Scott Bordow of The Athletic reports. The Cardinals seem to be optimistic that both Golden and Jermaine Gresham (Achilles) will return from serious injuries this weekend. In the case of Golden, he's almost one year removed from tearing the ACL in his right knee, which was finally sound enough for the pass rusher to log full practices this week. Still, the Cardinals don't have to reveal whether Golden will suit up until approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 PM ET kickoff.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Logs full practice Wednesday

Golden (knee) practiced fully Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Fitting in limited sessions last week wasn't considered enough for the Cardinals to clear Golden for game action Sunday against the Rams. After Wednesday's uninhibited session, he's trending in the right direction for his first appearance since tearing the ACL in his right knee Week 4 of last season. Supporting that notion is coach Steve Wilks, who told Kyle Odegard of the team's official site, "I hope so" when asked about Golden suiting up this Sunday versus the Bears.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Returns to practice

Golden (knee) returned to practice Wednesday, taking part in a limited fashion, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. The appearance marks Golden's first since tearing the ACL in his right knee Week 4 of last season. After accruing 12.5 sacks during a breakout 2016 campaign, he managed none before the season-ending injury. The Cardinals are expected to take a cautious approach with the pass rusher, but coach Steve Wilks termed Golden "day-to-day" in advance of Sunday's road game against the Rams. "I want to make sure, again, that I don't push him out there too soon because I don't want him to have a setback," Wilks told Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com. Consequently, Golden's status for Week 2 appears to be up in the air.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Activated from PUP list

The Cardinals activated Golden (knee) from the PUP list Saturday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. Golden is 11 months removed from tearing the ACL in his right knee, so he may not be entirely ready by the Cardinals' opener next Sunday against the Redskins. That said, his expected return must be within the first six weeks of the season, or else the team wouldn't have risked activating the pass rusher. Perhaps more important is how many snaps he'll be able to handle when he is cleared to take the field.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Heading to PUP list

The Cardinals placed Golden (knee) on the PUP list Monday, Kyle Odegard of the team's official site reports. Golden continues his recovery from a Week 4 ACL tear, with little known about his progress aside from embarking on running in early April. The pass rusher himself didn't clear up the situation at mandatory minicamp, telling Odegard he'd like to "feel healthy by the preseason." If that's not possible, which appears to be the case, Golden wants "to be ready" by the regular-season opener. With a 12.5-sack campaign on his resume, he has the ability to complement All-Pro Chandler Jones, but Golden's injury is a significant hurdle to overcome.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Nearing full recovery from ACL injury

Golden (knee) is close to making a full recovery from his ACL injury and should be 100 percent for the start of next season, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. Golden will likely enter camp as the starting weak side linebacker alongside the likes of Chandler Jones, Deone Bucannon and Karlos Dansby. While rookie Haason Reddick was solid when stepping in for Golden last season, the Cardinals seem to favor Golden's experience and could use Reddick elsewhere. Either way, Golden's recovery process seems to be moving along just fine.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Dealing with minor foot issue

Golden (foot) has been battling plantar fasciitis this offseason, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Although Golden has been limited at times throughout the Cardinals' offseason program due to the plantar fasciitis, this issue doesn't appear to be anything serious in the grand scheme of things. However, that could always change if it lingers into training camp and the preseason, so don't be surprised if Arizona management continues to take a cautious approach with its reigning sack leader by limiting which drills he can partake in.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Notches two sacks in Week 5

Golden recorded a pair of sacks along with 10 tackles in Week 5 against the 49ers. Golden has been amazing at getting to the quarterback, as he's recorded a sack in each week of the season, but this was the first game in which he recorded more than a single sack, giving him six on the season. In addition, he had a season-high 10 tackles, and he's now recorded at least six tackles in two of his last three games. Until he shows signs of slowing down, he's an automatic starter in IDP leagues.

  • Cardinals' Markus Golden: Notches strip sack Sunday

Golden notched three solo tackles, including a strip sack, during Sunday's victory versus the Bengals. In an attempt to keep his pass rushers fresh, defensive coordinator James Bettcher has capped their weekly reps, and Golden hasn't been an exception. The first full sack of the rookie's career occurred as the Bengals were gaining momentum in the fourth quarter, resulting in a chip-shot, 24-yard field goal for Chandler Catanzaro. That play aside, Golden has accrued only one other sack among 19 tackles (13 solo), as he's managed to pick up just over 50 percent (333 of 665) of the Cardinals' defensive snaps in 2015.
