Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Playing defense Saturday
Carpenter (hamstring) will play the outfield for the first time this spring in Saturday's game versus the Pirates, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Carpenter returned to action in the designated hitter spot earlier this week after missing time with a strained hamstring, and he's now ready for defensive duties. The 26-year-old is likely to be the Tigers' primary DH this season but will also see time in the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Expected to play Tuesday
Carpenter (hamstring) is included on the Tigers' travel roster for Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. After ramping up his running progression last week, Carpenter is now ready for his first Grapefruit League action of the spring. He was diagnosed with a mild hamstring strain Feb. 23. The 26-year-old is expected to be in the lineup nearly every day between the outfield and designated hitter after breaking out to the tune of 20 homers in 459 plate appearances last season.... Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Cleared for running work
Carpenter (hamstring) was able to do some running early Tuesday morning, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Carpenter was diagnosed with a mild hamstring strain Friday, and while the Tigers are saying he's day-to-day, it seems it may be awhile yet before we see him in exhibition games. The 26-year-old still has plenty of time to prepare for the start of the season, and the fact that he has already resumed running bodes well for his chances of being available for Opening Day.... Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Managing hamstring issue
Carpenter was diagnosed with a mild hamstring strain Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. It doesn't appear to be a serious injury, though Carpenter will likely be held out of action for at least the first few days of the Grapefruit League schedule. The 26-year-old slugger, who hit 20 homers with an .811 OPS in 118 games last season, is considered day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Idle against lefty
Carpenter isn't starting Sunday against the Athletics. The lefty-hitting Carpenter will take a seat with fellow lefty JP Sears on the mound for the A's. Matt Vierling will move to right field while Carpenter rests, allowing Tyler Nevin to start at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Remains locked in Friday
Carpenter went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI in Friday's win over the Angels. Carpenter now has at least one hit in 10 of the 13 games he's played this month, and he's batting .315 in September with seven RBI. It's been a standout season for the outfielder, who's batting .291 overall with an .852 OPS. Carpenter has also added 20 home runs this year to reach that mark for the first time in his brief MLB career.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Steals another base
Carpenter went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 10-3 win over the Yankees. The 26-year-old outfielder showcased his speed Thursday, legging out an infield single and swiping second base before scoring on a Tyler Nevin double. Carpenter didn't attempt any steals through the first 116 games of his career, but he has gained confidence on the bases lately, going 4-for-4 in stolen base tries over his last 12 games. Carpenter has posted a slash line of .320/.388/.558 across 50 second-half games, with 12 home runs, 36 RBI, 29 runs and four thefts across 201 plate appearances during that stretch.... See More ... Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Triples, scores in loss
Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Yankees. Carpenter was the only Detroit player to cross the plate as he continued his hot streak. The outfielder is batting .339 over his last 15 games with six extra-base hits and 10 RBI. For the season, he's now batting .291 with a robust .882 OPS and 20 home runs. Carpenter is enjoying a breakout campaign and figures to move up fantasy draft boards in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Doubles, reaches four times in win
Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 10-0 win over the White Sox. The Tigers rolled all over Chicago, and Carpenter was right in the middle of the action. The outfielder has had a breakout season with a .289 batting average, .876 OPS and 20 home runs across 93 games. He's been even better over his last dozen appearances, batting .341 with a .931 OPS.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Keeps slugging Wednesday
Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Cubs. Carpenter didn't hit a home run Tuesday, but he made up for that in a big way Wednesday, providing all of Detroit's offense. The outfielder has now gone deep in four of the last five games, and he has nine home runs this month overall in 21 contests. The power surge has allowed Carpenter to reach the 20-homer plateau for the first time in his career, and he is showing no signs of slowing down.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Homers in consecutive games
Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over Cleveland. Carpenter's solo shot in the seventh came on the 10th pitch of a battle that included five foul balls after beginning the at-bat down 0-2. Carpenter is now hitting .354 with seven home runs in the month of August and is establishing himself as a mainstay in the heart of the Tigers' lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Hits 17th home run
Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Guardians. Carpenter got things started with a three-run home run in the first inning, his 17th of the season. The outfielder has been on a power surge lately, with five of those long balls coming over his last eight games. Carpenter has earned a regular role in the middle of Detroit's lineup with his strong performance so far this year, as he's now batting .281 with an .862 OPS.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Possible waiver wire pickups
Carpenter has been a fixture in the Waiver Wire column of late, and indeed, his roster rate is beginning to climb, rising from 18 to 51 percent in two weeks' time. He continues to live up to his end of the bargain, going 2 for 4 with a home run Wednesday to give him a .455 (20 for 44) batting average and five home runs in his past 12 games. It's worth noting that only four of his 16 home runs have come at home, and Spencer Torkelson, another of Wednesday's featured players, is also held back from playing half his games at a power-suppressing venue. But the overall line looks great for Carpenter, who hit 36 homers between the minors and majors last year. Now that he's playing against lefties as well as righties, he's worth a look even in three-outfielder leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Pops 16th home run
Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Twins. Carpenter has been dialed in lately, as he's batting .412 over his last five games with four home runs. That's pushed the outfielder to 16 long balls for the season, which is 10 more than he had as a rookie last year. Carpenter has definitely taken a step forward after a promising debut in 2022, and he could be in line for an even bigger breakout in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Possible waiver wire pickups
Carpenter's stock continues to rise in Fantasy faster than his roster rate can keep up. With a three-homer weekend, including one off left-hander Chris Sale, he's up to 15 for the season and 21 in just 106 games as a major-leaguer (this after hitting 30 in 98 games as a minor-leaguer last year). The home run off a lefty is notable because he's now started against five of the past six the Tigers have faced, ending his platoon concerns from earlier in the year. He's striking out at just a 22 percent rate, which helps contribute to his 75th percentile xBA and 84th percentile xSLG. He's held back by his lineup and supporting cast, sure, but he's coming off a 34.5-point week and is now probably worth a look even in some three-outfielder leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Goes yard twice in win
Carpenter went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Red Sox. He got the Tigers on the board in the second inning by taking Brayan Bello deep before clubbing his second long ball in the eighth off Kyle Barraclough. Carpenter has gone yard three times in the last two days to extend his current hitting streak to nine games, a stretch in which he's batting a blistering .471 (16-for-34) with four homers, six RBI and 10 runs.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Goes deep Friday
Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Red Sox. Detroit mustered only two hits against Chris Sale and a pair of Boston relievers, with Carpenter getting the lone extra-base knock. The outfielder is up to 13 home runs this year, including two over the last six games, a stretch in which he's sporting an elite 1.303 OPS. For the season, Carpenter has an .824 OPS, making him one of the few offensive threats for the Tigers.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Goes yard as part of three-hit day
Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Rays. Carpenter put together his first three-hit effort since June 18 and had his first long ball since July 15. The blast came in the seventh of Jason Adam and was a 423-foot shot to center field. Carpenter now has a hit in three straight and has totaled six hits over that span. Carpenter raised his slash line to .265/.327/.473 and has an OPS of .800, which would all lead the team if he had enough at-bats to qualify.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Two hits, two RBI
Carpenter went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Monday's 5-1 win over the Giants. Carpenter delivered RBI singles in the third and fifth innings to help lead Detroit to the victory. The outfielder has been a pleasant surprise with an .830 OPS this season, and he's been locked in lately with a .314 average, three home runs and 11 RBI across his last 10 games. Carpenter should remain locked into a regular role as one of the Tigers' few offensive threats.... See More ... See Less
