Eguy Rosario made his MLB debut in 2022 and remains one of San Diego's top prospects, but he was sidelined to begin 2023 while recovering from ankle surgery. He made 11 appearances in the big leagues and played in 43 games at Triple-A El Paso, where he had a .770 OPS. Rosario remains one of the organization's top prospects and has a decent chance of receiving a longer look in 2024, though the Padres' infield remains fairly crowded and could make it difficult for him to secure a regular role.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Drawing start at third base

Rosario will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. Tyler Wade and Graham Pauley have been drawing starts against right-handers, but with the Cards throwing southpaw Zack Thompson on Wednesday, the right-handed-hitting Rosario gets the nod. He is 2-for-10 with a double and a home run in the early going this season.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Goes deep in loss

Rosario went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Giants. Rosario began the game on the bench before entering as a pinch hitter for Tyler Wade in the third inning. He struck out in that at-bat but came to the plate again in the ninth frame and swatted a two-run shot to left field. Rosario has an intriguing fantasy profile as an above-average base stealer with some power, but it's unclear if he'll get enough playing time this season to make an impact outside of dynasty formats.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: In competition at third base

Rosario is in the mix for starts at third base for the Padres while Manny Machado (elbow) is limited to the designated hitter spot, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Machado will need to DH at least for the club's March 20-21 series in South Korea and perhaps for a bit when it returns home, too. That opens up some at-bats at the hot corner, where Rosario is competing primarily with Graham Pauley and Matthew Batten. Rosario, 24, is 6-for-25 with a couple stolen bases in Cactus League play and went 9-for-36 with two homers during his brief time with the big club last season. He can play second base and shortstop, as well, putting him in contention for a reserve role even if he's not getting starts at third base.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Lifts second homer

Rosario went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Monday's 11-9 win over the Rockies. Rosario has gone 5-for-19 (.263) over his first five games this season, and two of those hits have been homers. This was also his first multi-RBI effort in his career. The infielder has carved out some playing time at third base, sharing the hot corner with Matthew Batten, since Manny Machado (elbow) has been unable to play the field. There's no platoon situation here, but Rosario seems set to be in the lineup about half of the time down the stretch, and perhaps more if Batten has to continue filling in for Ha-Seong Kim (abdomen) at second base.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Hits first big-league homer

Rosario went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to Houston. Rosario accounted for one of two San Diego runs in the contest with his 409-foot solo shot in the seventh inning. It was the first major-league homer for the 24-year-old, who went deep five times over 43 games with Triple-A El Paso before being called up last Friday. Rosario homered 22 times and stole 21 bases across 124 contests in Triple-A last season. He could get a decent look down the stretch with the Padres fading further out of contention for a playoff spot.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Recalled from Triple-A

Rosario was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Friday. Rosario has missed a large chunk of this season with an ankle injury, putting up a .770 OPS with four stolen bases when healthy. He's capable of playing all over the infield, although it's not clear how much playing time he'll ultimately receive down the stretch.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Getting look in majors

Rosario is expected to be promoted to the Padres' major-league roster Friday, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Rosario missed the first four months of the season with an ankle injury and has been with Triple-A El Paso since. Across 187 plate appearances, he's maintained a .770 OPS with four stolen bases, though he's also been caught four times. His fit on the big-league roster is currently unclear, but his ability to play multiple infield positions could help him find playing time.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Reinstated, optioned to Triple-A

The Padres reinstated Rosario (ankle) from the 60-day injured list Friday and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso. Rosario landed on the 60-day IL in February after suffering a broken ankle during the offseason. The 23-year-old infielder has been playing in rehab games since early June and is slashing .262/.351/.462 across 74 plate appearances in Triple-A. Now healthy, Rosario will remain in El Paso and could see some time in the majors once rosters expand in September.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Resumes rehab assignment

Rosario (ankle) resumed his rehab assignment June 22 and has gone 4-for-17 with six RBI, three runs and a 4:6 BB:K through five games with Triple-A El Paso this season. Rosario launched a rehab assignment June 6, but after playing that day, he took the next two weeks off before returning to game action. He's now played four games in total since restarting the rehab assignment and will likely remain with El Paso for close to the maximum 20 days before being activated from the Padres' 60-day injured list. Expect the Padres to option him to El Paso once he's activated.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Set for rehab games

Rosario (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A El Paso. Rosario suffered a broken ankle while doing offseason sprinting drills and underwent surgery before the start of spring training, but he has been cleared again for live games and could be a consideration for the Padres within the next few weeks. The young infielder registered an impressive .876 OPS with 22 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 124 games last year at the Triple-A level.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Goes on IL

The Padres placed Rosario (ankle) on the 60-day injured list Thursday. The move frees up a 40-man roster spot while Rosario, aiming for a midseason return from a broken ankle, continues his recover. Rosario had only six plate appearances in his big-league debut last season and, considering San Diego's remarkable infield depth, it might take some injuries for him to find MLB playing time in 2023.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Back to minors

Rosario was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday. Rosario was called up in late August and appeared in seven games off the bench during his few weeks in the majors. He went 1-for-5 with a walk and will now head back to El Paso, where he has a .291/.372/.518 slash line with 21 home runs , 76 RBI and 20 steals this season.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Called up by Padres

Rosario was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Friday. Rosario hasn't yet made his major-league debut, but he's one of the Padres' top prospects and has performed well at El Paso to begin the season. He slashed .291/.372/.518 with 21 homers, 92 runs, 76 RBI and 20 stolen bases in the minors this year and will attempt to carve out playing time at the big-league level after Matt Batten was sent down Friday.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Epic hot streak continues

Rosario has gone 21-for-44 (.477) with four homers, three steals, 13 RBI and 16 runs in his last 11 games for Triple-A El Paso. These are only the latest in a lengthy series of exploits for Rosario, who's racked up an eye-popping .373/.452/.741 batting line across the last 49 games, lifting his season line to .299/.385/.529 with 18 homers and 18 steals. Rosario's development this season has been nothing short of remarkable, but it's hard to see the competing Padres finding many reps for him at the big-league level this season.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Building momentum in minors

Rosario has swatted three home runs and knocked in seven runs while going 7-for-14 over his past three games with Triple-A El Paso. Rosario hit only .160 during his first six games in June, but he's turned things around considerably with his three-game hot stretch. The 22-year-old broke through with 12 homers and 30 stolen bases in 114 Double-A games last season and is on a similar pace with six long balls and 10 thefts through 54 games in his first Triple-A stint this year. He's striking out at a 23.7 percent clip but has balanced that with an above-average 10.5 percent walk rate.

  • Padres' Eguy Rosario: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Rosario was added to the Padres' 40-man roster Friday. With the Padres' system a lot shallower than it used to be, Rosario is now one of the team's better hitting prospects in the upper levels. He hit .281/.360/.455 at Double-A and .262/.348/.361 in the Arizona Fall League.
