Sanchez went 1-for-3 in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals. The 26-year-old outfielder has been making steady contact in camp, and through nine spring games, Sanchez is batting .333 (8-for-24) -- albeit with just one double and a 0:5 BB:K. He's coming off a 2023 campaign that saw him slash .253/.327/.450 with 14 homers in 125 games, but the Marlins believe he can find another gear, and he should be locked in to the starting right field job.... Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Gets $2.1 million
Sanchez agreed to a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Marlins on Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Sanchez still hasn't really broken out, but he was worth a career-best 1.3 fWAR in 125 games last season. The 26-year-old right fielder slashed .253/.327/.450 with 14 home runs and three steals in 402 plate appearances and will look to set a career high in games played this season.... See More ... Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: On bench versus lefty
Sanchez is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Mets. Jon Berti, Jazz Chisholm and Bryan De La Cruz will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they take on left-hander David Peterson at Citi Field. Sanchez has slashed just .217/.250/.326 in 49 plate appearances versus lefties this season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Not in lineup for first game
Sanchez is not in the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports The Mets have yet to announce the order of their starters for the double dip, but Sanchez's absence from the lineup suggests lefty Joey Lucchesi will start the first game and Kodai Senga will get the nightcap. Jorge Soler is playing right field in the first contest while Yuli Gurriel handles first base and Josh Bell is used at designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: On bench versus lefty
Sanchez is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets. Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm and Jorge Soler will start across the outfield as the Marlins take on left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Sanchez has slashed just .227/.261/.341 in 47 plate appearances versus lefties this season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Sitting against lefty
Sanchez is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Mets. Jon Berti, Jazz Chisholm and Bryan De La Cruz (ankle) will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they take on left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Sanchez has slashed just .220/.256/.317 in 44 plate appearances this year against southpaws.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: On bench versus southpaw
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Sanchez will once again head to the bench with the Phillies sending out a left-handed pitcher in Ranger Suarez. Dane Myers, Jazz Chisholm and Bryan De La Cruz should start from left to right across the outfield Sunday in Philadelphia.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Takes seat versus lefty
Sanchez is not in the lineup Friday against the Phillies. Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm and Garrett Hampson will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they take on left-hander Cristopher Sanchez. Sanchez the outfielder has enjoyed a solid overall season, but he carries a relatively weak .651 OPS versus southpaws.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Not in lineup Tuesday
Sanchez is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Rays. Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm and Jorge Soler will start across the outfield. Sanchez takes a seat after going 1-for-8 with three walks and two strikeouts in the Marlins' three-game weekend series against the Nationals.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: On bench Monday
Sanchez is out of the lineup Monday versus the Astros. Avisail Garcia, Bryan De La Cruz and Jorge Soler will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they take on the Astros and left-hander Framber Valdez. Sanchez has drawn only 27 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Not in Wednesday's lineup
Sanchez is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati. Avisail Garcia will get the nod in right field against Reds right-hander Graham Ashcraft while Sanchez sits. Sanchez has now started just two of the last six games, though Wednesday marks the first time during that stretch that he hasn't cracked the lineup versus a right-hander.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Sitting again Monday
Sanchez is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. Sanchez rarely starts against southpaws, so it should come as little surprise that he is being held out Monday with left-hander Brandon Williamson on the bump for Cincinnati.... See More ... Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Idle versus lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. Sanchez appears to have settled into the strong side of a platoon in the corner outfield, but he'll take a seat in Sunday's series finale while southpaw Andrew Heaney takes the hill for Texas. Avisail Garcia will replace Sanchez in the lineup and will bat sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Sitting against southpaw
Sanchez is not in Friday's lineup against the Rangers. He will open the game on the bench with lefty Jordan Montgomery on the hill for Texas. Sanchez has started only twice against a lefty all season, although both those starts came just prior to the trade deadline. He has started both his games against righties since the deadline, and the only righty the Marlins face this weekend is Jon Gray on Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Walks it off Wednesday
Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-8 extra-innings win over the Phillies. The Marlins had plenty of heroes on a wild night that saw them wait until the sixth inning to score their first runs and take their first and only lead in the 12th, but Sanchez got the walk-off honors by bringing home Jazz Chisholm with a single. Sanchez hadn't had a multi-hit performance since July 14, but since the All-Star break he's compiled a solid .295/.367/.432 slash line, albeit with just one homer, three runs and five RBI in 14 contests. With Chisholm and Avisail Garcia both healthy again, Miami's outfield has gotten crowded, so Sanchez will need to keep hitting if he wants to maintain even a semi-regular spot in the lineup.... Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Sitting again Tuesday
Sanchez remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Phillies. Sanchez appeared off the bench for the Marlins in Monday's series opener against Philadelphia, but he hasn't started a game since last Friday. There may be some kind of physical issue at play, as he was productive for the most part in July while posting an .828 OPS with three homers and 10 RBI across 19 games.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Hits bench against righty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Sanchez will hit the bench for a third straight game, but unlike the previous two contests, the Marlins are facing a right-hander (Taijuan Walker) rather than a left-handed starter/primary pitcher. With Avisail Garcia returning from the injured list Sunday and Jazz Chisholm (oblique) getting activated Monday, the Miami outfield is more crowded these days, and it doesn't help Sanchez's cause that super-utility man Jon Berti has been picking up more work in left field of late. Sanchez has posted a modest .728 OPS since returning from an IL stint of his own in late May and could be relegated to more of a part-time role now that Miami has plenty of options in the outfield.... Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: On bench again Sunday
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Sanchez finds himself on the bench for the second straight game with lefty Tarik Skubal on the mound Sunday for Detroit. Avisail Garcia (back) will man right field in his return from the injured list while Garrett Hampson starts in center.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Sitting out Saturday
Sanchez isn't in the Marlins' lineup Saturday against the Tigers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Sanchez is just 3-for-14 with a run scored across his last five contests, so he'll get a breather Saturday to regroup. Bryan De La Cruz will slide over to right field while Sanchez sits, allowing Jon Berti to start in left and bat fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Returns to action
Sanchez (neck) is starting in center field and hitting cleanup Friday against the Tigers. He was removed from Wednesday's game with neck tightness but is back in action against righty Reese Olson. Sanchez made his first start against a lefty all season July 23, but with Tarik Skubal due up for Detroit on Sunday and Joey Wentz a rumored option for Saturday's start, it's possible Sanchez sits in one or both of the final two games of the weekend....
