  • Dodgers' Patrick Mazeika: Shifted to MiLB camp

The Dodgers reassigned Mazeika to minor-league camp Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Mazeika slashed .253/.356/.352 in Triple-A last season but has struggled heavily against major-league pitching since debuting with the Mets in 2021. He will most likely return to Triple-A to begin 2023, but he is a long shot to be called up with Will Smith and Austin Barnes already on the big-league roster.

  • Dodgers' Patrick Mazeika: Signs with Dodgers

Mazeika and the Dodgers agreed to a minor-league contract Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Mazeika will head to Los Angeles after spending the 2022 campaign in the Mets' and Giants' organizations, producing a .191 batting average with one homer, six RBI and four runs scored over 72 at-bats while appearing in 24 big-league games for New York. The catcher will provide the Dodgers with an additional depth option behind Will Smith and Austin Barnes, both of whom will likely start the season on the major-league roster.

  • Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Sent to Triple-A

Mazeika was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. The 28-year-old has been serving as New York's backup catcher for the past month, but he'll return to the minors with James McCann (oblique) being activated from the 10-day injured list. Mazeika has a .508 OPS across 72 plate appearances in the big leagues this year.

  • Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Rejoins parent club

The Mets recalled Mazeika from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. He'll be available as a depth option behind Tomas Nido after the Mets placed top catcher James McCann (oblique) on the 10-day injured list prior to Sunday's game against the Marlins. As was the case when McCann missed significant time earlier this season with a fractured wrist, Mazeika is expected to see light duty behind Nido, who doesn't offer much from an offensive standpoint but is valued for his defensive work and game-calling skills.

Mazeika provided catching depth for the Mets over the last month and slashed .167/.200/.292 with a homer, four RBI and three runs over 17 games. However, he'll head back to the minors after James McCann (wrist) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

  • Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Playing time trending down

Mazeika is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. When he was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 13 after James McCann (wrist) was placed on the injured list, Mazeika initially split work behind the plate with Tomas Nido. The timeshare is no more, however, as Nido will nab his fifth consecutive start Tuesday while Mazeika is stuck on the bench.

During that time, he hit .190 with a homer, six runs and six RBI. He'll begin the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Syracuse but will likely be one of the top options to fill in as depth behind the dish if one of the team's major-league catchers get hurt.

Mazeika is out of the lineup Friday against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Mazeika started the past four games and will receive a maintenance day in Washington. Mazeika went 1-for-3 with a home run in Sunday's loss to the Rays. Mazeika replaced Jeff McNeil (hamstring) and made the most of his opportunity, recording his first homer of the season while seeing more than one at-bat for the first time in 2021. That said, he isn't likely to see a lot of at-bats going forward, and his value should remain minimal until that situation changes.

Mazeika has hit seven home runs and stolen two bases while batting .302 this season for High-A St. Lucie. Mazeika is climbing up the minor-league ladder, advancing a level with each passing season. So far, he has yet to show any signs of slowing down. The seven home runs are already the most he's ever hit in one season, and he's on pace to record his third straight year of hitting over .300.
