He had earlier singled in the first inning to extend a hit streak to seven contests, during which he has gone 11-for-30 (.367) with a home run and eight RBI. Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Swipes bag in win
Gurriel went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Rockies. The 30-year-old outfielder continues a strong start to the season. Gurriel has hit safely in five straight games, and through 12 contests he's slashing .308/.368/.538 with three homers, two steals, 10 runs and 14 RBI -- a mark that puts him just one back of the league leaders, as Teoscar Hernandez, Jake Burger and Spencer Steer all have 15.... Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Not starting Tuesday
Gurriel is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies. Gurriel started the first 11 games of the campaign and will receive a day off after he posted a .298/.365/.532 slash line with three homers, 12 RBI and 10 runs during that stretch. Jake McCarthy is starting in left field Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -

Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Homers again
Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 7-3 win over the Rockies. Gurriel went deep for a second straight game to start the season, hitting the first of back-to-back home runs in the first inning. After a production dip in 2022 while with Toronto, Gurriel has found a home in the desert. After his bounce-back season in 2023, the Diamondbacks inked him to a three-year deal. He'll toggle between left field and DH while batting mostly third in a lineup that's already scored 23 runs.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Drives in five on Opening Day
Gurriel went 3-for-5 with a home run, three total runs and five total RBI in Thursday's 16-1 rout of the Rockies. Gurriel put Arizona on the board with his two-run blast to left field in the first inning and contributed to a 14-run explosion in the third with a pair of run-scoring singles. The veteran outfielder belted a career-high 24 homers last season in his first campaign with the Diamondbacks following an unusual prior season during which he batted .291 but went deep just five times over 492 plate appearances. He has a pretty stable batting-average floor and is a strong defensive player, though he's not the most exciting fantasy asset given his lack of speed and non-elite power.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Batting third in return
Gurriel (hand) will bat third and start in left field in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Gurriel exited Friday's 7-5 win over the Cubs after taking a pitch off his left hand during an at-bat, but X-rays cleared him of any structural damage. A day off Saturday appears to be all Gurriel needed for the soreness in his hand to subside.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: No need for X-rays after HBP
Gurriel did not require X-rays after exiting Friday's game versus the Cubs following a hit by pitch on the left hand, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Gurriel looked to be in plenty of pain after being struck by a Kyle Hendricks offering, but he said after the game that he feels fine. Consider the outfielder day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Exits game after HBP on hand
Gurriel was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs after being hit on the left hand by a pitch, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. An 88.1 mph sinker from Kyle Hendricks caught Gurriel in a bad spot and he let out a scream before walking off the field with the trainer. Further testing will likely be necessary before the severity of the issue, and a timeline for his return, is determined.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Collects second spring XBH
Gurriel went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's spring game against Milwaukee. Gurriel delivered a run-scoring double in the fourth inning, giving him extra-base hits in consecutive games. He's 5-for-14 with a home run and three RBI over five Cactus League appearances. He experienced a bounce-back season in his first year with the Diamondbacks in 2023, and the club re-signed him for another three seasons. He provides a needed right-handed bat to complement a lefty-dominant lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Re-signing with Arizona
Gurriel agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract with the Diamondbacks on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. The deal includes an opt-out after the second year and a club option for 2027. The 30-year-old had a .772 OPS with 24 homers and 82 RBI after being acquired by the Diamondbacks last offseason, and he'll return for another run in the desert. Gurriel split his playing time between left field and designated hitter last season, and he's likely to do so again in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Logs fifth steal
Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Astros. Gurriel has gone just 2-for-12 over three games since shaking off a minor shoulder issue. The steal was his fifth of the season, one shy of his career high from 2019. The outfielder has been a fairly steady hitter this year with a .260/.308/.461 slash line, 24 home runs, 81 RBI, 65 runs scored, 34 doubles and two triples over a career-high 144 contests.... Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Back in lineup Thursday
Gurriel (shoulder) is starting in left field and batting sixth Thursday against the White Sox. Gurriel was scratched from the lineup Wednesday due to left shoulder tightness, but it has proven to be a minor issue and he is back in action for the Diamondbacks in Thursday's series finale versus Chicago. He went 3-for-5 with three singles and a run scored in Tuesday's series opener.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Could return Thursday
Manager Torey Lovullo said Gurriel (shoulder) could return to the lineup as early as Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Gurriel was scratched from the Diamondbacks' lineup Wednesday versus the White Sox after experiencing tightness in his left shoulder during pregame batting practice, but it doesn't seem to be anything serious. Gurriel was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the White Sox due to left shoulder discomfort, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. It's not clear when or how the injury occurred, but Gurriel must be in some real pain in order to ask out of the lineup as the Diamondbacks fight for their playoff lives. Jake McCarthy entered the lineup in Gurriel's place.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Scratched from lineup
Gurriel was a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup against the White Sox. The reasoning for Gurriel's removal from the batting order isn't clear at this point, but he's presumably dealing with some sort of injury. Corbin Carroll will slide over to left field, and Jake McCarthy has entered the lineup in right.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Stays hot Saturday
Gurriel went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Cubs. This was Gurriel's second three-RBI game in a row. It's also his fifth multi-hit game in September, a month in which he's gone 18-for-56 (.321), a strong performance to keep Arizona in the playoff race. The outfielder is batting .261 with a .786 OPS, 24 home runs, 80 RBI, 63 runs scored and four stolen bases over 134 contests this year. He needs four more RBI to match his career high from 2021.... Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Opens scoring in win
Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 6-4 win over the Cubs. Gurriel had gone seven games without a homer, though he has swatted four of them in September and 24 on the year.
