Player Outlook
Ramon Laureano appeared poised for a breakout after he posted a .288/.340/.521 slash line during his first full MLB season in 2019, but he struggled over the past few years and was DFA'd by Oakland in early August. He was quickly claimed by Cleveland and had a .724 OPS for his new team, which was a significant improvement on the .644 OPS he had for Oakland last season. In total he played in 105 games and had nine homers, 12 steals, 35 RBI and 46 runs while striking out at a 28.2 percent clip. Laureano's decent power and speed profile make him a potential 15-15 candidate, but he averaged 388 plate appearances over the past three seasons and is hardly guaranteed to eclipse that in 2024 given his inconsistent performance and durability concerns.

Laureano isn't in the Guardians' lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees. Laureano went 1-for-3 with a run scored during the Guardians' last game Wednesday and could still see playing time during the nightcap Saturday. • Guardians' Ramon Laureano: Records two steals in loss

Laureano went 0-for-2 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, two stolen bases and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the White Sox. Laureano continues to get plunked -- he's been hit by as many pitches (four) as he has hits through seven games this season. He is up to three steals while batting just .200 with two runs scored and a 3:8 BB:K. Laureano is seeing a large share of the time in right field and can cover center. His main competitors for playing time are also off to slow starts, as Tyler Freeman is hitting .200 and Estevan Florial is batting .167.

  • Guardians' Ramon Laureano: Swipes bag Saturday

Laureano went 1-for-2 with a double and a stolen base in Saturday's 12-3 win over the Athletics. Laureano has started in right field against both left-handed pitchers the Guardians have faced this season. His double was his first hit of the campaign, and he's added a walk, two strikeouts and a steal. It's still early, but it appears Laureano and Will Brennan are in a strict platoon in right field. It's also possible Laureano could see some games as the designated hitter versus right-handers if his bat warms up.

Laureano signed a one-year, $5.15 million contract with the Guardians on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. • Guardians' Ramon Laureano: Gains traction in everyday lineup

Laureano will start in right field and bat cleanup Wednesday against the Twins. Laureano will draw his eighth consecutive start Wednesday, including his third in a row out of the cleanup spot. Though he's benefited from fellow outfielder Will Brennan sitting out against lefties while also missing a few days with a knee injury, Laureano still appears to have claimed a regular spot in the lineup at the expense of Oscar Gonzalez, who will head to the bench for the second time in three games while he remains in the midst of a 5-for-42 slump at the plate over his last 11 contests. Laureano, meanwhile, has been running hot while starting the previous seven games, going 10-for-26 with four extra-base hits and four walks. Expect the Guardians to continue to make room in the starting nine for Laureano while he's thriving at the dish.

Laureano, who also added a single and a double, had struggled since being claimed off waivers from the A's in early August. However, he is showing signs of breaking out of his funk as he now has seven hits with two homers, two doubles, and seven RBI over his past four contests.
