Player Outlook
Daz Cameron joins the Athletics after spending all of the 2023 season in Triple-A as a member of the Baltimore organization, and he performed well with Norfolk with a slash of .268/.346/.452 with 16 homers along with 23 steals across 110 games. The 27-year-old hasn't faced MLB pitching since 2022, and he has looked overmatched in his time at the highest level with a .597 OPS and 77 strikeouts over 244 plate appearances. The landing spot does offer Cameron a chance to earn a roster spot with a strong showing in the Cactus League and he's not bereft of talent, but Cameron enters 2024 without much likelihood of helping fantasy rosters this summer.

The Athletics reassigned Cameron to minor-league camp Sunday. Cameron signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics in November. In 110 games at Triple-A last season, he slashed .268/.346/.452 with 16 home runs and 23 steals. • Athletics' Daz Cameron: Signs minors pact

Cameron signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Friday. A former prospect of note with the Astros and the Tigers, Cameron is now on his fourth organization after spending all of last season with Baltimore's Triple-A affiliate. Oakland is a good landing spot for a player like Cameron, as there could be at-bats up for grabs. He slashed .268/.346/.452 with 16 home runs and 23 steals in 110 games at Triple-A last year and turns 27 in January.

  • Daz Cameron: Elects free agency

Cameron (finger) elected free agency Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Cameron registered a .798 OPS with 16 homers and 23 steals over 110 games with the Triple-A affiliate of the Orioles in 2023 before suffering a season-ending finger sprain in mid-September. The 26-year-old outfielder owns a career .201 batting average and .597 OPS in 244 plate appearances at the MLB level.

  • Orioles' Daz Cameron: Triple-A season over

Cameron was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Norfolk on Sept. 16 with a finger sprain, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. The 26-year-old outfielder slashed .268/.346/.452 with 16 home runs and 23 steals in 110 games at Triple-A. Even so, Cameron rated as slightly below league average (98 wRC+) and he first played at the Triple-A level back in 2018.

  • Orioles' Daz Cameron: Opening season at Triple-A

The Orioles reassigned Cameron to minor-league camp Monday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Cameron is expected to begin his first season in the Baltimore organization at Triple-A Norfolk, where he should be in line to fill a near-everyday role in the outfield. The 26-year-old owns a career .201/.266/.330 slash line while striking out in 31.6 percent of his 244 plate appearances in the big leagues over parts of three seasons with the Tigers.

  • Orioles' Daz Cameron: Loses spot on 40-man roster

Cameron cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday. Cameron was claimed off waivers by the Orioles in November but won't retain his spot on the 40-man roster. The 25-year-old appeared in 25 games for Detroit last season but spent most of the campaign at the Triple-A level, where he had a .240/.312/.392 slash line in 98 contests.

  • Orioles' Daz Cameron: Picked up by O's

The Orioles claimed Cameron off waivers from the Tigers on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Cameron, who was drafted by the Astros in 2015 and then traded to the Tigers in 2017 as part of the deal that sent Justin Verlander to Houston, will be moving on to his third organization. Since reaching the big leagues for the first time in 2020, Cameron has struggled to stick at baseball's top level, slashing .223/.288/.364 with a 31.6 percent strikeout rate across 244 plate appearances with Detroit over the past three seasons. The Orioles are expected to give Cameron a look in spring training and give him the chance to compete for a reserve role in the outfield, but because he has no minor-league options remaining, he would have to be traded or exposed to waivers if he's not included on the Opening Day roster.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Returns to minors

Cameron was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after Tuesday's loss to the Guardians, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Cameron was recalled from Toledo last week and will return there after going 1-for-8 with a walk and a run in three games. Overall he has a .219/.286/.344 slash line with one home run, eight RBI and two stolen bases in 21 big-league games this year.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Called up from Toledo

The Tigers recalled Cameron from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. Cameron will help bolster the Tigers' outfield depth after Robbie Grossman was moved to Atlanta ahead of the trade deadline. The Tigers could deploy the righty-hitting Cameron against left-handed pitching, but he likely won't have a path to a regular spot in the lineup while all of Riley Greene, Willi Castro, Victor Reyes and Akil Baddoo are available.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Reinstated, sent down Sunday

Cameron (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list and optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Cameron spent over two weeks on the COVID-19 IL for contact-tracing-related reasons, but he began a rehab assignment in Toledo on Thursday. The 25-year-old went 2-for-10 with a walk and four strikeouts during his rehab stint and will remain with the minor-league club now that he's been reinstated.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Begins rehab assignment

Cameron (illness) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. Cameron has been on the COVID-19 injured list since June 10, but he was cleared to rejoin the Tigers on Monday and resumed workouts. • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Resumes workouts

Cameron cleared COVID-19 protocols Monday and resumed workouts, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Cameron has been on the COVID-19 injured list for nearly two weeks. While he's now cleared protocols, he's expected to work out for the next few days and then begin a rehab assignment, so his return to the active roster is still several days away.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Needs rehab assignment

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday that Cameron has yet to clear MLB's COVID-19-related protocols and is without a timeline to rejoin the big club, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. When Cameron was placed on the COVID-19 injured list last Friday, Hinch noted that the outfielder didn't test positive for the virus and was instead ruled out for the next five days due to contact-tracing-related reasons. Because Cameron isn't eligible to rejoin the team five days later, he's seemingly since tested positive for the virus and will need more time off than expected before being activated. Hinch noted that Cameron will require a minor-league rehab assignment prior to coming off the IL, and it's possible that the 25-year-old may be optioned to Triple-A Toledo once reinstated now that Victor Reyes has taken over as the Tigers' No. 4 outfielder.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Hasn't tested positive

Cameron's placement on the COVID-19 injured list Friday was due to contact tracing rather than a positive test, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Cameron was reportedly a close contact of someone else who tested positive for the virus. He'll be out for a minimum of five days but may not miss any more time than that if he continues to test negative.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Hits injured list

Cameron was placed on the injured list for undisclosed reasons Friday. The Tigers' decision to specify neither the reason for Cameron's absence nor which specific injured list he's been placed on suggests that he's landed on the COVID-19 injured list. Whether or not he's tested positive for the virus himself is unclear, so it's difficult to say when he'll be back. Robbie Grossman (neck) returned from the 10-day injured list to take his spot on the roster.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Productive at plate Wednesday

Cameron went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Pirates. Making his fifth start in the last six games, Cameron was effective from the No. 9 spot in the lineup. He's only batting .232 overall, though the outfielder is hitting .333 over his past five appearances. Cameron has some tools, and he's worth at least some fantasy consideration while he's seeing playing time and performing consistently at the plate.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Fifth start in six games

Cameron will start in center field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh. Cameron will pick up his fifth start in six games Wednesday, including his second straight turn in center field. Meanwhile, Derek Hill is on the bench for the second straight contest and appears to have lost hold of a regular role in the wake of Austin Meadows' return from the 10-day injured list. Cameron, who went 1-for-4 with two runs in Tuesday's 5-3 win, should get the chance to work alongside Meadows and Willi Castro as the Tigers' primary outfielders until Robbie Grossman (neck) is back from the IL.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Hits clutch home run

Cameron went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Twins. Cameron picked a good time for his first home run of the season, taking Emilio Pagan deep in the eighth inning with a runner on to turn a 2-1 deficit into an eventual 3-2 win. The outfielder is still batting just .195 with a .576 OPS, and he doesn't have a locked in role either, so fantasy managers should still probably look elsewhere until further notice.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Sits in favor of Clemens

Cameron is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. Cameron takes a seat with the Tigers breaking in recent call-up Kody Clemens into the outfield Wednesday. The 25-year-old started in each of Detroit's last seven games and slashed .174/.296/.217 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base.

  • Tigers' Daz Cameron: Primed for everyday role

Cameron will start in right field and bat eighth in the first game Tuesday's doubleheader with the Twins. Cameron will be making his sixth consecutive start and looks like he could get the chance to play regularly against both left- and right-handed pitching following Robbie Grossman's (neck) placement on the 10-day injured list Monday. Through 36 plate appearances with Detroit this season, Cameron is slashing a woeful .156/.250/.156.
