Hayes has hit two home runs and a double across his first 14 Grapefruit League at-bats. Hayes is locked into every day playing at third base thanks to his tremendous defense, but his fantasy value will turn on his ability to hit for power and swipe bases. He took a step forward in the former category in 2023, improving his average launch angle to 13.2 degrees, which resulted in a career-best .182 ISO. He's seemingly carried that approach over into his early at-bats this spring and could be in for a solid regular season while occupying a key position in the Pittsburgh lineup.... See More ... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Not in Sunday's lineup
Hayes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Marlins. Hayes went 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run in Saturday's loss to Miami, which will end up being his final start of the year. The 26-year-old took a step forward at the plate in 2023 with 15 homers and a .273/.310/.455 slash line in 124 games.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Rest day Thursday
Hayes is not in the lineup for Thursday's game at Philadelphia. This appears to be a routine day of rest for Hayes, who went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in the Pirates' loss to the Phillies on Wednesday. Jared Triolo will start at third base and bat third in Thursday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Stays hot with homer
Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-5 win over Cincinnati. Hayes went yard off Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott in the top of the fourth inning before adding a single in the top of the seventh. It was the fourth straight multi-hit game for the 26-year-old third baseman, who has slashed .329/.357/.595 across 83 plate appearances in September while lifting his season OPS to .786.... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Stays hot Wednesday
Hayes went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 13-7 win over the Cubs. Hayes has five multi-hit efforts over his last seven games, going 13-for-29 (.448) in that span. He's produced one home run, five RBI and a stolen base in that span. The third baseman has been steady this season, batting .276 with a .771 OPS, 14 homers, 60 RBI, 59 runs scored and 10 stolen bases through 116 contests overall. With his three-hit effort Wednesday, he now has a career-high 126 hits for the season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Supplies only offense in rout
Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 14-1 loss to the Cubs. The third baseman spoiled Chicago's shutout bid by taking Javier Assad deep in the third inning. Hayes is wrapping up a big second-half breakout, and since coming off the IL in early August, he's slashing .309/.349/.562 through 40 games with nine of his 14 homers on the season -- a power pace supported by his 93rd percentile average exit velocity, 89th percentile hard-hit rate and career-best 13.1 degree launch angle and 39 percent flyball rate in 2023.... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Steals 10th bag
Hayes went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, an intentional walk and one RBI in Tuesday's victory over the Nationals. Hayes singled twice, stole a base, drew an intentional walk and contributed a sacrifice fly to extend Pittsburgh's lead to 5-1 in the seventh inning. In 35 games since returning from a back injury Aug. 2, the 26-year-old has slashed .298/.344/.553 with eight doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 24 RBI and 20 runs. However, the theft was just Hayes' 10th this season and first since July 6 after last year's 20-steal campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Swats 12th homer
Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-2 victory versus the Brewers. Hayes broke a 2-2 tie with his fifth-inning solo shot, and that held up as Milwaukee didn't score again in the contest. The third baseman has gone deep four times over his past 11 games, a span in which he's slashing .348/.412/.696 with eight RBI and nine runs. Hayes is up to a career-high 12 homers on the campaign, five more than he hit over 560 plate appearances last season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Gets breather Wednesday
Hayes is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Royals. Hayes has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball in recent weeks, boasting a .366/.422/.683 batting line with six home runs and 19 RBI over his last 20 games. He'll grab a routine night off Wednesday as Vinny Capra fills in at third base for the visiting Pirates.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Reaches five times in victory
Hayes went 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI in Monday's 5-0 win against the Royals. Hayes reached safely in each of his five plate appearances, finishing with his fourth career game of at least four hits. The third baseman's lone extra-base knock was a double that plated a run in the third frame. Hayes has been swinging a hot stick for about three weeks, racking up 11 multi-hit games in 19 contests since Aug. 8. He's batting .372 (29-for-78) with five homers, six doubles, one triple, 17 RBI and 12 runs over that span.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Swats leadoff homer
Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, two total RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 10-6 loss to the Cubs. Hayes has seven multi-hit efforts with two homers and four doubles over his last 11 contests. His blast Saturday opened the scoring for the Pirates in the first inning, though it quickly went downhill for the home team. Hayes is up to 10 homers, 48 RBI, 45 runs scored and nine stolen bases while slashing .264/.303/.432 over 96 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Increased power
Hayes went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and double Wednesday against the Cardinals. Hayes took Zack Thompson yard in the fifth inning to tally his ninth homer of the season. Four of his long balls have come in 18 games since he was activated from the injured list Aug. 2, and he's also tacked on six additional extra-base knocks. Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Gets breather Tuesday
Hayes is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals. This appears to be a scheduled day of rest for Hayes, who went 1-for-5 with a double in Monday's series against St. Louis. Vinny Capra will play third base and bat seventh Tuesday as the Pirates take on veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Not starting nightcap
Hayes isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Reds, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. After a 1-for-4 performance in Game 1, Hayes will take a seat for the second game of Sunday's action. Jared Triolo will step in as the Pirates' third baseman and bat eighth.... See More ... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Mashes sixth homer
Hayes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a three-run home run in Tuesday's 8-6 loss to Atlanta. Both extra-base hits came off Yonny Chirinos, including Hayes' first-inning homer that staked the Pirates to an early 3-1 lead. The third baseman had gone just 1-for-15 with six strikeouts in his prior four games after returning from lower back discomfort, but he looked 100 percent healthy Tuesday and had posted a .337/337/.518 slash line over 21 games in June with three of his six homers on the year, plus 13 RBI, before his back trouble cropped up. If he is fully recovered, Hayes might be ready to pick up where he left off.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Held out Monday
Hayes is not in the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta. Hayes went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts over the last two days and is just a few days removed from a multi-week stint on the injured list, so he will get a breather Monday. Jared Triolo will man the hot corner in place of Hayes.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: On bench Friday
Hayes is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Jared Triolo gets the start at third base, batting sixth against right-hander Colin Rea. There has been no word of a setback with Hayes' lower back nor has there been any mention of a new injury, so it seems the Pirates are just being cautious with Hayes and easing him back into regular action following his IL stint. Hayes has gone 1-for-7 with an RBI in his first two games back.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Activated from IL
The Pirates reinstated Hayes (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Hayes won't be in the Pirates' lineup Tuesday against the Tigers, but he was deemed healthy enough to rejoin Bucs' active roster after going 1-for-9 with a run scored during his three-game rehab assignment in Triple-A. Hayes has been on the IL since July 7 and will most likely return to action Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Begins rehab assignment
Hayes (back) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Hayes has been on the injured list since July 7 with lower back discomfort, and he'll now begin the final step before rejoining the Pirates' lineup. The team hasn't indicated how long it plans on keeping Hayes in the minors, but it's certainly possible he returns before the end of July.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Resumes baseball activity
Hayes (back) resumed baseball activity Wednesday, MLB.com reports. Hayes has played in only one game since June 24, though he took a step forward by running, taking grounders and hitting Wednesday. It's likely that he'll need a rehab assignment, so a return may still be a couple of weeks away.... See More ... See Less
