Player Outlook
Eloy Jimenez missed three weeks in May due to an appendectomy but otherwise stayed mostly healthy in 2023, and his 120 games played is the most since his rookie campaign. Sitting out 42 games is still significant but marks a major improvement from the previous two years, when he appeared in a combined 139 contests. He still missed some time here and there with calf and groin issues, and his .272/.317/.441 slash line was a notable drop from his .295/.358/.500 line in 2022. Jimenez totaled 18 homers, 64 RBI and 50 runs last season, while his .169 ISO was the worst mark of his MLB career. Potential versus durability continues to be the theme for Jimenez, with durability concerns unfortunately winning out to this point. That seems unlikely to change in 2024, though he would be an incredible value for fantasy managers on the off chance he's finally able to play a full season.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Earns three walks across twin bill

Jimenez went 0-for-5 with three walks and a run scored across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals. Jimenez was in the lineup for the first time since being activated from the injured list, and he served as the designated hitter in both contests while batting cleanup. It's also possible that Jimenez will see time in the outfield, though the team may be cautious with his usage given his lengthy injury history.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Could play some outfield

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Monday that Jimenez, who was activated from the injured list earlier in the day, could be used some in the outfield, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports. Gavin Sheets filled in admirably as the designated hitter while Jimenez was sidelined and is also an option -- and probably a likelier one -- to see action in the outfield as the team seeks to keep both bats in the lineup. All three of Jimenez's starts this season came at DH before he got hurt, and only 14 of his 118 starts in 2023 were in the outfield. It's possible he could wind up playing the outfield enough to pick up eligibility there in fantasy, but the White Sox also want to keep him healthy and having Jimenez play the field heightens that risk.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Activated from injured list

Jimenez (adductor) was activated from the 10-day injured list by the White Sox on Monday. Jimenez is not in Monday's lineup against the Royals but will be available off the bench. He hasn't played since March 31 because of a left adductor strain but was cleared to return after ramping up his running over the weekend. Gavin Sheets is getting another start at designated hitter Monday.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Ramping up running intensity

Jimenez (adductor) will ramp up his running intensity this week, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports. It's good that Jimenez is upping his activity level, but it would appear he's not going to return this weekend as had been hoped. Jimenez has been sidelined for the past week with a left adductor strain. Gavin Sheets has held down designated hitter duties for the Pale Hose since Jimenez was injured.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Could return during weekend series

Jimenez (thigh) is progressing in his recovery and could return during the White Sox's weekend series against the Reds, MLB.com reports. Manager Pedro Grifol said that Jimenez is feeling better each day, but he declined to give a specific return date. As expected, the priority for the team is to avoid any setbacks or aggravation of the injury. Given the rash of injuries the White Sox have faced early on this season, as well as his own history of issues, the team may take a cautious approach with Jimenez.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Placed on injured list

Jimenez was placed on the 10-day injured list by the White Sox on Friday with a left adductor strain, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Jimenez suffered the injury Sunday, but the White Sox had kept him on the active roster in hopes that he could be ready to play this weekend. Clearly, that didn't happen, though Jimenez will be eligible to return in a week since the roster move is retroactive to Tuesday. Gavin Sheets will continue to fill in at designated hitter against righties, and Robbie Grossman has assumed Jimenez's roster spot.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Missing fourth straight day

Jimenez (adductor) isn't in the White Sox's lineup for Thursday's game against Kansas City. Manager Pedro Grifol previously stated that Jimenez has avoided a move to the IL up to this point because there is still a possibility that he could play against the Royals over the weekend. However, with Jimenez still out for the series opener, a trip to the injured list is looking increasingly likely. Gavin Sheets will continue filling in for Jimenez as Chicago's DH and cleanup hitter.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Could do some running Wednesday

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said that Jimenez (adductor) could try to do some running Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Jimenez is missing a third straight start Wednesday against Atlanta after he suffered a left adductor injury Sunday. Grifol noted that the team hasn't made a roster move with Jimenez yet because there's a "possibility" the designated hitter could be ready to play this weekend in Kansas City. While Jimenez seems to have shown improvement since suffering the injury Sunday, Grifol seems less optimistic now about the slugger avoiding the IL than he did earlier this week. Gavin Sheets has been filling in at DH with Jimenez sidelined.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Remains out of lineup

Jimenez (adductor) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus Atlanta. Jimenez will miss a third straight start after tweaking his left adductor during Sunday's game against the Tigers. The White Sox maintain optimism that Jimenez will be able to avoid a stint on the injured list, and the rough weather conditions in Chicago also could have played a part in the club's decision to sit him again. Gavin Sheets will pick up another start at designated hitter Wednesday.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Held out again Tuesday

Jimenez (adductor) remained out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta. Jimenez will sit out a second straight contest after having to leave Sunday's game with a left adductor injury. The injury was considered minor enough following an MRI that Jimenez is being called day-to-day. Gavin Sheets will receive another start at designated hitter in Jimenez's place Tuesday.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Day-to-day following MRI

Jimenez is considered day-to-day after undergoing an MRI on his left adductor, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports. Jimenez was hurt while running out a groundball Sunday and did not play in Monday's contest. He has managed to avoid a long-term injury, though, and the White Sox will just play a man short for the time being rather than put Jimenez on the injured list. Gavin Sheets started at designated hitter in Jimenez's place Monday and should draw regular time there against righties.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Awaiting MRI results

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Monday that the team is "in a holding pattern" while awaiting the results of Jimenez's (adductor) MRI, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports. Jimenez had to be removed from Sunday's game against the Tigers are injuring his left adductor while running out a grounder. Lenyn Sosa has joined the club in Chicago in case he needs to replace Jimenez on the active roster, but the latter is still be evaluated for a possible stint on the injured list. Fantasy managers should have a contingency plan in place for Jimenez.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Sitting out Monday

Jimenez (adductor) is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta. Jimenez suffered a left adductor injury while running out a groundball in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Tigers and had to be removed. He had been set to undergo testing, but the results aren't yet known. For now, consider Jimenez day-to-day. Gavin Sheets will be the White Sox's designated hitter Monday.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Battling adductor tightness

Jimenez was removed from Sunday's game against the Tigers due to left adductor soreness. Jimenez appeared to tweak something while running out a grounder during the sixth inning, prompting him to limp off the field. The 27-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into Chicago's three-game series against Atlanta, which begins Monday.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Rejoins lineup Friday

Jimenez (foot) is batting cleanup as the designated hitter in Friday's split-squad game against the A's. The 27-year-old suffered a contusion Wednesday after fouling a ball off his foot, but he'll return to the starting nine just two days later. Jimenez avoided a serious injury, but health remains a concern given that he's missed at least 40 games in each full season of his MLB career.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Battling bruised foot

Jimenez was diagnosed with a right foot contusion Thursday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Jimenez fouled a ball off his foot during Wednesday's spring training game but is officially listed as day-to-day, so his foot is unlikely to impact his availability for Opening Day. Jimenez has looked solid during Cactus League action, slashing .348/.375/.500 with 12 RBI through 48 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Could play right field

Jimenez is entering the 2024 season healthy and could occasionally play in right field, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Jimenez played 120 games in 2023, his highest mark since the 2019 season. However, he posted a career-worst .169 ISO while swatting only 18 home runs. Jimenez is set to hit free agency at the close of the season, so adding some defensive value back into his profile could help his cause on the open market.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: On bench for finale

Jimenez is not in Sunday's lineup against the Padres. Jimenez will be UTIL-only heading into 2024 in leagues that require 15-plus games to qualify at a position, as he only played 14 games in the outfield this year and 105 at designated hitter. He slashed .272/.317/.441 with 18 home runs, 50 runs and 64 RBI.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Blasts three-run homer

Jimenez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional RBI in Tuesday's 15-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. Jimenez tagged starter Zach Davies for a three-run shot in the first inning, then drove in Chicago's only other run in the second frame, plating Andrew Benintendi on a single. The outfielder has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 appearances, a stretch in which he's batting .308 with three homers, nine RBI and eight runs scored.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Homers in nightcap

Jimenez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 11-10 loss against Kansas City. Jimenez got the White Sox on the board in the fifth inning with a solo blast off Jordan Lyles, cutting the deficit to 9-1 and jumpstarting an improbable comeback in an eventual one-run Chicago loss. The homer snapped a 14-game power outage for Jimenez, with his last long ball coming back on Aug. 25. He's now batting .273 on the year with a .763 OPS, 16 homers, 58 RBI and 45 runs scored across 425 plate appearances.
