Player Outlook
Taylor Rogers joined his twin brother in San Francisco, signing a three-year, $33 million contract with the Giants last offseason. The southpaw got off to a rough start in 2023, permitting seven earned runs over his first five appearances. However, Rogers was outstanding over the next four months, allowing just six earned runs over his next 38 innings (1.42 ERA). The veteran continued to struggle against right-handed hitters (.313 BAA) and his walk rate ballooned to a career-worst 11.6 percent, but he struck out 64 over 51.2 innings for a near-30 percent strikeout rate. He can still be an effective late-inning reliever if the Giants continue to limit his exposure to hitters of the opposite handedness.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Sloppy early in spring

Rogers has allowed four unearned runs on three hits and two walks over 1.2 innings in Cactus League play. Rogers is a two-time 30-save man, but he'll have a tough time leapfrogging Camilo Doval and Tyler Rogers in the late-inning mix. The left-handed Rogers had a 3.83 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 64:25 K:BB over 51.2 innings last season, adding two saves and 12 holds. He could still see the occasional save chance, but he struggled mightily versus right-handed hitters last season, so his usage could end up being more situational than his fellow late-inning relievers.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Exits with back tightness

Rogers exited Sunday's game against the Dodgers with lower-back tightness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The season is over and the Giants aren't in the playoffs, so Rogers will have all offseason to get right. He gave up three earned runs on four hits and zero walks while striking out one before exiting.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Picks up one-out save

Rogers retired the only batter he faced to pick up his second save of the year in an 11-10 win over the Rockies on Sunday. The Giants entered the ninth inning with a five-run lead and wound up escaping with the win after a fielding error by Camilo Doval extended the game. Rogers wound up replacing Doval with a man on first to face Charlie Blackmon and got him to line out to end the game. Rogers has given up four runs in 4.2 innings pitched in September but also has picked up a save and a hold in six appearances. Overall, Rogers has a 3.06 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 60:24 K:BB, 12 holds and two saves in 50 innings this year.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Earns sixth win

Rogers (6-4) struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the win Monday over the Angels. Rogers kept the Giants within a run in the eighth inning, and their offense took over in the ninth to rally for the 8-3 win. The southpaw has allowed one unearned run, seven hits and four walks while racking up eight strikeouts over his last 9.1 innings. For the season, he's maintained a 2.52 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB with a save and seven holds through 39.1 innings as a key late-inning option in the Giants' steady bullpen.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Takes loss Monday

Rogers (5-4) allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk over one inning to take the loss in extra innings versus the Diamondbacks. He did not record a strikeout. The Giants were able to rally from behind to tie the game in the 10th inning, but they didn't have a second comeback in them. Rogers saw his 6.1-inning scoreless streak come to a close. Since he only gave up an unearned run, he didn't do damage to his ERA, which is at 2.65 with a 1.10 WHIP and 44:18 K:BB through 37.1 innings this season. Rogers has added six holds and a save while filling a versatile role that often sees him picking up late-inning work.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Handed loss Friday

Rogers (4-3) allowed two runs on two walks and struck out one over two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Friday versus the Rockies. Rogers threw just 10 of 21 pitches for strikes to begin the seventh inning, and his brother, Tyler Rogers, was then tagged for a three-run home run by Ezequiel Tovar. This was the first time since April 12 that the southpaw Rogers has given up multiple runs, and it's just the fourth appearance in that span that he's been scored on at all. He owns a 3.30 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 38:15 K:BB through 30 innings while adding a save and four holds. Despite Friday's misstep, he should continue to be a high-leverage option.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Collects fourth win

Rogers (4-2) allowed a hit and struck out one over one scoreless inning to earn the win Saturday over the Diamondbacks. Rogers' scoreless streak is now a month long, spanning 13 innings in which he's given up five hits and four walks while striking out 22. The impressive stretch has trimmed his ERA to 2.67 with a 1.07 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB over 27 innings this season. He's added a save and three holds, and he'd likely be first in line for a save chance Sunday since Camilo Doval has pitched three times in four days and Tyler Rogers has four appearances over the Giants' last five games.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Picks up win

Rogers (3-2) allowed one walk and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the extra-innings win over the Dodgers on Friday. Rogers worked the 10th inning and kept the game tied before the Giants pulled ahead in the 11th. He's now on a 10.1-inning scoreless streak with a 20:3 K:BB over that impressive span. The southpaw has effectively shaken off his slow start to the year and now has a 2.96 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB with three holds and a save through 24.1 innings. He's still seeing high-leverage assignments, though not necessarily in areas where he can rack up holds.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Earns second win

Rogers (2-2) allowed a hit and a walk while striking out three over a scoreless inning to earn the win Wednesday over the Rockies. Rogers made things interesting but kept the Giants within a run in the seventh inning. He's pitched 6.1 consecutive scoreless innings, and he's given up just one run in his last 18 appearances. The southpaw got off to a rough start in 2023, but he's recovered to a 3.54 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB through 20.1 innings while adding a save and three holds in 24 appearances. He should continue to feature as part of the bridge to closer Camilo Doval.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Nabs first win

Rogers (1-2) struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the win Tuesday over the Phillies. Rogers entered after Alex Cobb unleashed a wild pitch with runners on the corners to tie the game. Rogers was able to escape trouble and then log an out in the fifth before John Brebbia entered the contest. Over his last 12 appearances, Rogers has allowed one run, six hits and four walks while striking out 10. He had plenty of struggles early in the season, but he's finding a bit more success without a late-innings role. The reliever has a 4.73 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB with a save and two holds through 13.1 innings overall.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Notches save in extras

Rogers struck out one while recording the final two outs of the 11th inning to pick up his first save of the season in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Marlins. The Giants took a 5-1 lead in the top of the 11th, but after Sean Hjelle allowed the phantom runner to score in the bottom of the frame, Rogers got the call to shut the door as closer Camilo Doval had worked earlier in the game. Rogers has had a shaky beginning to his tenure with San Francisco, getting scored upon in five of his eight appearances so far, and his ugly 13.50 ERA is matched by a 3:6 K:BB through 4.2 innings. Despite those numbers, the veteran southpaw will continue to get chances to regain his form and lock down a high-leverage role.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Gets walked off

Rogers (0-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit while failing to record an out, taking the loss in extra innings Saturday versus the Tigers. Miguel Cabrera pinch hit for Akil Baddoo and delivered a walkoff single against Rogers in the 11th inning. Rogers has failed to record an out in each of his last two appearances, and he's kept the opponent off the scoreboard in only one of his six games this season. He owns an ugly 18.90 ERA, 3.30 WHIP and 1:6 K:BB across 3.1 innings. With Rogers struggling, most high-leverage work is likely to go to Camilo Doval and Tyler Rogers in the near term.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Disaster outing Wednesday

Rogers (0-1) took the loss Wednesday versus the Dodgers, allowing four runs on four walks while failing to record an out. Rogers was called upon in the sixth inning, but he threw just 15 of 30 pitches for strikes. One of his walks came on a pitch clock violation. John Brebbia proceeded to allow three inherited runners to score, leaving Rogers with the loss. Rogers has kept runs off the board just once in five appearances, pitching to an awful 18.90 ERA and 3.00 WHIP across his first 3.1 innings with the Giants. With numbers like that, he may have worked his way out of the high-leverage mix for the immediate future.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Doing fine in spring

Rogers has allowed one earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out eight over 4.1 innings across five Cactus League appearances. Rogers had an elevated 2.7 BB/9 over 64.1 innings between the Brewers and the Padres last year, and walks appear to still be an issue for him. Everything else is in order though, and the southpaw should be ready to take on a setup role in his first year with the Giants. Manager Gabe Kapler is likely to roll with Camilo Doval as the closer, but Rogers has reached 30 saves twice in his career, so he will be a solid secondary option for games where Doval isn't available.

  • Giants' Taylor Rogers: Joins brother in San Francisco

Rogers signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Giants on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. The left-hander will be reunited with his twin brother, Tyler, in the San Francisco bullpen. Taylor finished with a 4.76 ERA over 64.1 innings between the Padres and Brewers in 2022, although that came with an excellent 84:19 K:BB. Camilo Doval should still have a clear leg up for saves in the Giants' bullpen, but the team's newest Rogers could enter the mix with Gabe Kapler often liking to play matchups.

  • Brewers' Taylor Rogers: Tallies win in blown save

Rogers (4-7) gave up one earned run on two hits and no walks while striking out one over one inning to tally the win in a 7-6 victory over the Yankee on Friday. Rogers came in to protect a one-run lead in the top of the ninth and he promptly blew the save by giving up a solo home run to Josh Donaldson, which hit the left-field foul pole. He then gave up a no-outs double to Oswaldo Cabrera but settled down to retire the side. Despite blowing his ninth save of the season, Rogers picked up the win thanks to a Brewers walkoff victory in the bottom of the inning. Rogers has an ERA of 4.91 in 18.1 innings pitched since being acquired by Milwaukee at the trade deadline.

  • Brewers' Taylor Rogers: Records 31st save

Rogers picked up the save in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against San Francisco, striking out all three batters he faced in a 4-2 win. With Devin Williams recording the save in Game 1, Rogers was called upon to close out the nightcap and needed just 13 pitches to strike out the side. It was his 31st save of the season and third since joining Milwaukee. Rogers had poor showings in each of his previous two outings -- giving up two homers and allowing five runs (four earned) in one inning -- but was able to bounce back Thursday with a dominant performance. Since joining the Brewers he's compiled a 5.65 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 23:5 K:BB in 14.1 innings.

  • Brewers' Taylor Rogers: Notches save Saturday

Rogers earned a save against Arizona on Saturday, striking out two batters in a perfect 10th inning. Devin Williams got the ninth inning with the score tied, and he kept Arizona off the scoreboard to send the game to an extra frame. After Milwaukee scored twice in the top of the 10th, Rogers shut down the Diamondbacks in the bottom of the inning to record his 30th save of the campaign. The lefty reliever hasn't given up an earned run in any of his past eight outings and has notched a pair of saves and a pair of wins over that span. Williams is still the primary candidate for save chances out of the Brewers' bullpen, but Rogers is clearly the preferred option when Williams is unavailable or used in other ways.

  • Brewers' Taylor Rogers: Earns 29th save

Rogers picked up the save in Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Cubs. He allowed one hit and zero walks while striking out one over one scoreless inning. Rogers pitched around a two-out double off the bat of Seiya Suzuki to record his 29th save of the season Sunday. This was the southpaw's fourth straight scoreless outing but his first save since joining the Brewers on Aug. 2. Devin Williams still figures to be the top dog for save opportunities with Josh Hader out of the picture despite blowing the save opportunity Saturday. Keep an eye on the closer situation in Milwaukee in case skipper Craig Counsell decides to turn to Rogers more often.

  • Brewers' Taylor Rogers: Ready to return

Rogers (knee) has reportedly been available since Wednesday but has yet to make an appearance, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Rogers received a cortisone shot in his left knee last weekend and was unavailable through Tuesday's game against the Rays as a result. He was available both for Wednesday's series finale and for Friday's series opener against the Cardinals but didn't make an appearance in either contest. Rogers should get into a game soon, however, as he doesn't have any structural damage per Rosiak.
