• Giants' Taylor Rogers: Sloppy early in spring

  Rogers has allowed four unearned runs on three hits and two walks over 1.2 innings in Cactus League play. Rogers is a two-time 30-save man, but he'll have a tough time leapfrogging Camilo Doval and Tyler Rogers in the late-inning mix. The left-handed Rogers had a 3.83 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 64:25 K:BB over 51.2 innings last season, adding two saves and 12 holds. He could still see the occasional save chance, but he struggled mightily versus right-handed hitters last season, so his usage could end up being more situational than his fellow late-inning relievers.

• Giants' Taylor Rogers: Picks up one-out save

  Rogers retired the only batter he faced to pick up his second save of the year in an 11-10 win over the Rockies on Sunday. The Giants entered the ninth inning with a five-run lead and wound up escaping with the win after a fielding error by Camilo Doval extended the game. Rogers wound up replacing Doval with a man on first to face Charlie Blackmon and got him to line out to end the game. Rogers has given up four runs in 4.2 innings pitched in September but also has picked up a save and a hold in six appearances. Overall, Rogers has a 3.06 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 60:24 K:BB, 12 holds and two saves in 50 innings this year.

Rogers kept the Giants within a run in the eighth inning, and their offense took over in the ninth to rally for the 8-3 win. He's still seeing high-leverage assignments, though not necessarily in areas where he can rack up holds.

Rogers made things interesting but kept the Giants within a run in the seventh inning. He's pitched 6.1 consecutive scoreless innings, and he's given up just one run in his last 18 appearances. The southpaw got off to a rough start in 2023, but he's recovered to a 3.54 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB through 20.1 innings while adding a save and three holds in 24 appearances. He should continue to feature as part of the bridge to closer Camilo Doval.

Over his last 12 appearances, Rogers has allowed one run, six hits and four walks while striking out 10. He had plenty of struggles early in the season, but he's finding a bit more success without a late-innings role. The reliever has a 4.73 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB with a save and two holds through 13.1 innings overall.

Rogers has had a shaky beginning to his tenure with San Francisco, getting scored upon in five of his eight appearances so far, and his ugly 13.50 ERA is matched by a 3:6 K:BB through 4.2 innings. Despite those numbers, the veteran southpaw will continue to get chances to regain his form and lock down a high-leverage role.

With numbers like that, he may have worked his way out of the high-leverage mix for the immediate future.

Rogers had an elevated 2.7 BB/9 over 64.1 innings between the Brewers and the Padres last year, and walks appear to still be an issue for him. Everything else is in order though, and the southpaw should be ready to take on a setup role in his first year with the Giants. Manager Gabe Kapler is likely to roll with Camilo Doval as the closer, but Rogers has reached 30 saves twice in his career, so he will be a solid secondary option for games where Doval isn't available.

The left-hander will be reunited with his twin brother, Tyler, in the San Francisco bullpen. Taylor finished with a 4.76 ERA over 64.1 innings between the Padres and Brewers in 2022, although that came with an excellent 84:19 K:BB. Camilo Doval should still have a clear leg up for saves in the Giants' bullpen, but the team's newest Rogers could enter the mix with Gabe Kapler often liking to play matchups.

• Brewers' Taylor Rogers: Tallies win in blown save

  Rogers (4-7) gave up one earned run on two hits and no walks while striking out one over one inning to tally the win in a 7-6 victory over the Yankee on Friday. Rogers came in to protect a one-run lead in the top of the ninth and he promptly blew the save by giving up a solo home run to Josh Donaldson, which hit the left-field foul pole. He then gave up a no-outs double to Oswaldo Cabrera but settled down to retire the side. Despite blowing his ninth save of the season, Rogers picked up the win thanks to a Brewers walkoff victory in the bottom of the inning. Rogers has an ERA of 4.91 in 18.1 innings pitched since being acquired by Milwaukee at the trade deadline.

  Rogers picked up the save in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against San Francisco, striking out all three batters he faced in a 4-2 win. With Devin Williams recording the save in Game 1, Rogers was called upon to close out the nightcap and needed just 13 pitches to strike out the side. It was his 31st save of the season and third since joining Milwaukee. Rogers had poor showings in each of his previous two outings -- giving up two homers and allowing five runs (four earned) in one inning -- but was able to bounce back Thursday with a dominant performance. Since joining the Brewers he's compiled a 5.65 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 23:5 K:BB in 14.1 innings.

The lefty reliever hasn't given up an earned run in any of his past eight outings and has notched a pair of saves and a pair of wins over that span. Williams is still the primary candidate for save chances out of the Brewers' bullpen, but Rogers is clearly the preferred option when Williams is unavailable or used in other ways.

This was the southpaw's fourth straight scoreless outing but his first save since joining the Brewers on Aug. 2. Devin Williams still figures to be the top dog for save opportunities with Josh Hader out of the picture despite blowing the save opportunity Saturday. Keep an eye on the closer situation in Milwaukee in case skipper Craig Counsell decides to turn to Rogers more often.

• Brewers' Taylor Rogers: Ready to return

  Rogers (knee) has reportedly been available since Wednesday but has yet to make an appearance, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Rogers received a cortisone shot in his left knee last weekend and was unavailable through Tuesday's game against the Rays as a result. He was available both for Wednesday's series finale and for Friday's series opener against the Cardinals but didn't make an appearance in either contest. Rogers should get into a game soon, however, as he doesn't have any structural damage per Rosiak.
