Player Outlook
Trea Turner was playing in the first year of a new huge deal in a new city, so history tells us there would be some bumps in the road for the talented superstar. However, even his harshest critic would not have predicted Turner having a .235/.290/.368 line as last as Aug. 3 and hitting in the eighth spot of the lineup. Philly fans, as they are well-known for, cheered him into a hot streak? Turner got hot in a well-timed series against the lowly Royals in early August and hit .337/.389/.668 the rest of the season with 16 homers, 42 runs and 42 RBIs helping push his final numbers close to what he did in 2022. The batting average hole he dug for himself was too much to climb out of, and the lineup demotion cut into his RBIs, but the homers were up while the steals and runs held true. One would have to hope the worst of things is behind Turner and 2024 could be a MVP-type seasons for him if he can play at his late pace. That elusive 30-30 season should happen in 2024.

  • Phillies' Trea Turner: Back in lineup for Game 1

Turner (elbow) is back in the lineup for Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series on Tuesday versus the Marlins. Turner will start at shortstop and bat second against the Marlins and left-hander Jesus Luzardo. He sat out of Sunday's regular-season finale after taking a pitch off his left elbow Saturday, but there was never much concern about his readiness for Philly's best-of-three series versus Miami.

  • Phillies' Trea Turner: Will sit Sunday

Turner (elbow) will be held out of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Manager Rob Thomson stated after the second half of Saturday's twin bill that Turner is fine, but he'll miss Sunday's matchup. He'll presumably be good to go for the NL Wild Card Series, though confirmation on his availability likely won't come until early next week.

  • Phillies' Trea Turner: Pulled after HBP

Turner was removed from Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets due to a left elbow contusion, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Turner was drilled by a pitch in the top of the seventh inning, though he was initially able to remain in the contest to run the bases. The early diagnosis brings good news, but the Phillies will undoubtedly keep a close eye on the star shortstop with the playoffs starting early next week. He'll be considered day-to-day and could be held out of the regular-season finale to help get him as healthy as possible for the postseason.

  • Phillies' Trea Turner: Resting for afternoon game

Turner will sit for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets. The Phillies will be the fourth seed in the National League regardless of what happens over the weekend, so it's unlikely that they ask many of their star players to play twice in one day. Turner owns a 1.002 OPS with 16 homers since the start of August, entering the playoffs on a high note despite a rough start to his time in Philadelphia. Edmundo Sosa will take over at shortstop in his absence.

Turner went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Twins. The Phillies' offensive malaise Saturday didn't slow down Turner's resurgence.
