Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Wednesday that Williams (back) is expected to be out until around the All-Star break, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Initial estimates in mid-March when Williams was diagnosed with two stress fractures in his back had the closer missing three months. Arnold's timetable appears to be more conservative than that, although with Williams yet to resume baseball activities, any timetable is approximate at this juncture. Abner Uribe has been serving as the Brewers' closer early on this season.... See More ... See Less

Brewers' Devin Williams: Transferred to 60-day IL
The Brewers transferred Williams (back) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday. The move doesn't change Williams' timetable, as he is slated to be out until at least mid-June while recovering from two stress fractures in his back. Kevin Herget will take Williams' spot on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Devin Williams: Set to miss three months
Williams was diagnosed with two stress fractures in his back Wednesday and will miss approximately three months, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Williams had pitched through back soreness toward the end of last season, and he saw a back specialist Wednesday after the soreness returned during spring training. Williams will be shut down from throwing for six weeks before beginning a six-week rehab program, lining him up to return sometime during June. Losing Williams is a huge blow to the Brewers after the 29-year-old closer posted a 1.53 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 2023 while racking up 87 strikeouts across 58.2 innings and tallying 36 saves en route to winning his second NL Reliever of the Year Award. It's unclear who will replace Williams as Milwaukee's primary closer to begin the season, but Joel Payamps and Abner Uribe are likely candidates.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Devin Williams: Set to see spine specialist
Williams is dealing with a sore back and will get a second opinion from a spine specialist in the coming week, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin adds that Williams had an MRI on his back this past week. He'll continue to take time off as a precaution until he is assessed by a back specialist this week. Williams tallied 36 saves in 40 tries last season while posting a 1.53 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 87:28 K:BB over 58.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Devin Williams: Club option for 2025
Williams agreed to a one-year contract with the Brewers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Based on the reported figures the two sides were exchanging, the deal is likely for around $7 million, and it comes with a club option for 2025. Williams is the top closer in fantasy for 2024, according to early ADP. He had a 1.53 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 58.2 innings last season while notching 36 saves.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Devin Williams: Posts 36th save
Williams recorded a save against the Cardinals on Wednesday, walking two batters and striking out one in a scoreless and hitless inning. Williams had some trouble with his control, throwing just nine of 19 pitches for strikes and walking a pair of batters while tasked with protecting a one-run lead. Both of the free passes came with two outs, but the right-handed reliever was able to steer around the danger by getting Jordan Walker to fly out to end the contest. This was Williams' first appearance in 10 days and his first save since Sept. 15. With six straight scoreless outings during which he's 4-for-4 in save opportunities, Williams looks primed for the postseason.... See More ... See Less -

The right-hander's Airbender changeup was in peak form, as Carter Kieboom, Ildemaro Vargas and Luis Garcia all went down swinging against the pitch. Since the beginning of August, Williams has posted an elite 1.76 ERA, 0,65 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB through 15.1 innings while collecting three wins and nine saves in 17 appearances as he establishes himself as one of the premier closers in baseball.... Brewers' Devin Williams: Blows save, earns win Friday
Williams (8-3) earned the win Friday after he pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one run while striking out a batter in a 7-5 victory over the Phillies. Williams was called upon to protect a 3-2 lead with two runners on base in the top of the eighth inning, but he surrendered a three-run homer to Trea Turner, suffering his fourth blown save of the season. The offense picked him up in the bottom of the frame though, scoring four runs and regaining a 7-5 lead. Williams then came out for the top of the ninth, setting down the Phillies in order. It was the second save in as many days for Williams, and he's struck out the side in each outing. He's posted a 13.6 K/9 on the campaign while compiling 28 saves, a 1.36 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP.... Brewers' Devin Williams: Walks tightrope for 25th save
Williams picked up a save against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out three batters over one scoreless inning. Williams didn't have much margin for error when he entered in the ninth frame, as the Brewers held just a one-run lead. The right-hander allowed a one-out single that quickly came back to haunt him when pinch runner Forrest Wall proceeded to steal second and third base, and Williams issued consecutive two-out walks to load the bases. However, he was able to escape the jam by getting Ozzie Albies to strike out swinging on a changeup. Williams thus converted his seventh consecutive successful save opportunity, and he's not allowed a run while posting a 14:3 K:BB over 6.2 innings during that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Devin Williams: Nails down 24th save
Williams gave up two hits and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to close out a 5-3 win over the Phillies. The Milwaukee closer has been scored upon only once in his last 16 appearances, converting 14 of 15 save chances during that stretch with a 1.15 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB through 15.2 innings.... Williams (4-2) was charged with the loss and a blown save against the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and no walks while striking out one batter over one inning. Williams was called upon in the ninth frame to protect a two-run Milwaukee lead, but he was unable to come through for just the second time this season. The right-hander gave up a two-out, two run double that tied the game, then saw the eventual winning run cross the plate on an error by third baseman Brian Anderson. The outing snapped a nine-contest, nine-inning scoreless streak for Williams, during which he had racked up eight saves.
