Martinez will spend at least 10 days preparing to join the Mets after the season begins, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. It's unclear whether Martinez's preparation will occur in Triple-A games or at the Mets' spring training facility, but he won't be available to serve as New York's DH until after the second weekend of the season. Manager Carlos Mendoza said Saturday that once Martinez is ready to make his Mets debut, he will bat fourth in the lineup behind Pete Alonso, per Tim Healey of Newsday.... See More ... See Less

Mets' J.D. Martinez: Could consent to being optioned
Martinez could consent to being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse until the Mets decide he's ready to take over as their everyday designated hitter, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. While Martinez has options remaining, because he has accrued so much service time he would have to consent to being sent down to the minors. It sounds like he would be willing to do that in an effort to get up to speed after missing most (if not all) of spring training. Mark Vientos -- who appears out of a job once Martinez is ready -- could be used as the Mets' DH initially.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' J.D. Martinez: Joins Mets on one-year deal
Martinez signed a one-year deal worth $12 million with the Mets on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. The Mets have reportedly been in talks with Martinez for much of spring training, and he'll now join the team on a short-term deal. He should serve as the team's primary designated hitter, cutting into the playing time of Mark Vientos and potentially Brett Baty. Martinez is entering his age-36 season, but he has maintained a wRC+ of at least 119 in each of the last three campaigns and adds another quality bat to the middle of the Mets' lineup.... J.D. Martinez: Talking to Mets
The Mets are among the teams discussing a contract with Martinez, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Signing Martinez would result in a 110 percent luxury tax penalty for the Mets, but owner Steve Cohen has "given the go-ahead to seriously discuss" signing the designated hitter, per Heyman. Heyman also says the interest is mutual, although the Angels and Marlins appear to still be in the running for Martinez, too. Mark Vientos is currently projected to be the Mets' DH.... See More ... J.D. Martinez: No fit in San Francisco
Martinez was being pursued by the Giants before the club signed Jorge Soler in mid-February, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants offered a one-year, $14 million contract, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, but Martinez is apparently looking for closer to $20 million. The 36-year-old slugger's 33 homers with the Dodgers last season was the first time he topped 30 since 2019, but his .271/.321/.572 slash line was also accompanied by a career-worst 31.2 percent strikeout rate.... Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Goes yard in win
Martinez went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Friday's 6-2 win over the Giants. Martinez's power binge continues -- he's homered seven times over his last 11 contests to get to 33 long balls for the season. His blast Friday gave the Dodgers some added insurance in the sixth inning. The designated hitter is hitting .400 (16-for-40) during his surge, a stretch that has raised his batting average on the year from .261 to .274 and his OPS from .852 to .906. He's added 103 RBI, 61 runs scored, 27 doubles, a stolen base and two triples through 111 contests.... See More ... See Less -

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 14-5 loss to the Rockies. Martinez set an early tone with his first-inning blast, but the Rockies took control of the game in the third inning. This was Martinez's sixth multi-hit effort in his last 10 games, and he's hit six homers with 14 RBI in that span. The designated hitter is up to 32 long balls, 100 RBI, 60 runs scored, one stolen base and a .274/.325/.576 slash line through 110 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Takes seat for nightcap

The veteran has been on fire since being activated from the injured list Sept. 8, slashing .386/.442/.750 with five homers, 17 RBI and eight runs over 12 games. Martinez's long ball Thursday gave him his first 30-homer campaign since he went deep 36 times for Boston in 2019.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: On base four times in win
Martinez went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Tigers. Martinez has enjoyed hitting against his former team, going 5-for-6 with three homers and six RBI over the first two games of this series. The designated hitter is at 29 long balls this season, putting him within striking distance of his first 30-homer campaign since 2019. He's added a .270/.324/.566 slash line with 92 RBI, 56 runs scored, a stolen base, 24 doubles and two triples through 102 contests in his first season with the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Homers twice in win
Martinez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Monday's 8-3 win over the Tigers. Martinez opened the scoring with a second-inning solo shot, popped a three-run blast an inning later and tacked on the Dodgers' last run with an RBI single in the seventh. He's gone 13-for-36 (.361) over nine contests since he returned from a groin/hamstring issue that sent him to the injured list in August. The designated hitter is slashing .266/.318/.556 with 28 homers, 91 RBI, 55 runs scored and a stolen base through 101 contests overall.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Out of Sunday's lineup

Martinez was reinstated from the injured list Friday and started the past two games, but he'll take a seat Sunday after going 4-for-8 with a double, a homer, three RBI and two runs. Max Muncy will receive a turn as the Dodgers' designated hitter with Chris Taylor starting at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Goes yard in return
Martinez went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 8-5 win over the Nationals. Activated from the IL earlier in the day, Martinez wasted little time proving he was fully recovered from his groin injury, as he drove a MacKenzie Gore slider over the fence in right-center field for a two-run shot in the first inning. It's his first long ball since July 25 and 26th of the season, and the 36-year-old DH might have enough time left on the calendar to reach 30 homers for the first time since 2019.... See More ... Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Plays in back-to-back rehab games
Martinez (groin) went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and three RBI on Wednesday in his second rehab game with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Martinez kicked off his rehab assignment Tuesday, going 0-for-4 as OKC's designated hitter. He was back in the same role Wednesday and came through with a key hit for the Triple-A affiliate, clubbing an eighth-inning double that plated three runs to give OKC the lead. Martinez appears on track to be activated from the IL and return to the big-league Dodgers on Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Expected back Friday
Martinez (groin) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday and is expected to return to the major-league Dodgers on Sept. 8 against Washington, MLB.com reports. Martinez has been on the injured list since Aug. 22 but appears to be making progress toward a return. The veteran slugger is slated to play in a simulated game Saturday ahead of kicking off a rehab stint Sunday. Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Rehab assignment coming
Martinez (groin) will embark on a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City before likely returning for the Dodgers' upcoming series against Washington, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. The Dodgers' series with the Nationals will run from Sept. 8-10, though it is unclear exactly which game Martinez will be activated for. Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Out at least 2-to-3 weeks
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Martinez (groin) will be out for at least 2-to-3 weeks, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Martinez landed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday afternoon due to lingering left groin tightness and is going to be completely shut down from baseball activities for the next week. A build-up period will follow, and it could very well extend into mid-September. Michael Busch is serving as the Dodgers' designated hitter and batting eighth Tuesday night at Cleveland.... Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Goes on IL with tight groin
The Dodgers placed Martinez on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with left groin tightness, Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA reports. When healthy this season, the veteran designated hitter has posted an .856 OPS with 25 home runs and 78 RBI across 92 games for Los Angeles. Michael Busch has been called up in a corresponding roster move.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: One hit in return
Martinez (groin) went 1-for-3 in Friday's 11-3 loss to the Marlins. Martinez has dealt with a groin/hamstring issue that's bothered him for much of the month, leading to multiple absences. With a doubleheader on tap Saturday, it wouldn't be surprising to see him only play in one of the two games. He's gone 4-for-17 (.235) in August while managing the issue, dropping his slash line for the year to .259/.312/.552 through 91 contests.... See More ... See Less
