  • Vikings' Jaren Hall: Plays 46 snaps as rookie

Hall appeared in three games games during the 2023 season, completing 13 of 20 passes (65 percent) for 168 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception while adding six carries for 14 scoreless yards.

The fifth-round rookie started Week 9 after Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending torn Achilles' tendon Week 8. Hall lasted all of 11 offensive snaps versus Atlanta before he was concussed and replaced by trade pickup Joshua Dobbs. Dobbs then started the next four games before giving way to Nick Mullens. Coach Kevin O'Connell, trying to find an offensive spark, went back to Hall as the Week 17 starter but pulled him at halftime against the Packers after he went just 5-for-10 passing for 67 yards and one interception with a lost fumble. Hall likely won't be guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster next season after his lackluster first season as a pro. He'll be competing for a backup job.

  • Vikings' Jaren Hall: Serving as emergency QB

Hall (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Lions, but he'll serve as the emergency quarterback, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports.

Hall drew his first career start against the Packers in Week 17 but struggled and was benched in favor of Nick Mullens to start the second half. Hall was then demoted to third on the depth chart during Week 18 prep, so it's not surprising to see the rookie fifth-round pick listed as inactive for the regular-season finale. Mullens will start versus Detroit, while Joshua Dobbs serves as the primary backup.

  • Vikings' Jaren Hall: Falls to third on depth chart

Hall has been demoted to third on the depth chart at quarterback for Sunday's game against the Lions, Jonathan Harrison of SI.com reports.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell announced Thursday that Hall would be denied a second straight start in the regular-season finale, with Nick Mullens picking up the starting nod in his stead. O'Connell wouldn't initially commit to whether Hall or Joshua Dobbs would serve as Mullens' backup in Week 18, but the coach clarified following Friday's practice that Dobbs had moved up to the second spot on the depth chart. Hall is thus likely to be inactive Sunday as an emergency third quarterback and won't be eligible to play unless the Vikings lose both Mullens and Dobbs to injury.

  • Vikings' Jaren Hall: Not starting Week 18

Hall will cede starting quarterback duties to Nick Mullens for Sunday's regular-season finale versus the Lions, but head coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that he hasn't decided whether Hall or Joshua Dobbs will serve as the team's No. 2 signal-caller in Week 18, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

The Vikings' decision to move Hall down at least one spot on the depth chart comes as little surprise after the rookie fifth-round pick struggled to move the offense during his second career NFL start in this past weekend's 33-10 loss to the Packers. Hall completed just five of 10 pass attempts for 67 yards and an interception, took three sacks and lost a fumble in the first two quarters before being benched in favor of Mullens after halftime. The Vikings' decision to reinstall Mullens as their starter for Week 18 marks the fifth quarterback change that O'Connell has made since Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending torn Achilles' tendon in late October.

  • Vikings' Jaren Hall: Benched at halftime

Hall was benched for the second half of Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Packers after completing five of 10 pass attempts for 67 yards with one interception while taking two carries for four yards with a lost fumble.

Hall had a rough go of things in his first NFL start after failing to produce a touchdown while committing two turnovers before mercifully getting the hook at halftime. In the rookie's defense, being thrown into the fire to save a team's playoff life on Sunday Night Football is a gargantuan task to assign to a player with barely any pro experience. Veteran backup Nick Mullens took over in the second half and threw the Vikings' only touchdown of the contest in garbage time. Despite the quarterbacks' contrasting stat lines, head coach Kevin O'Connell did not comment on who he will start against Detroit in Week 18. Even with the fifth-round pick struggling Sunday, it appears that Hall is still in the mix to start in Minnesota's regular-season finale.
