Draft Scouting Report

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 66.69 (Role player)

Pro Comparison: Justyn Ross

Summary:

Michael Jefferson is an Alabama St. transfer who is a hard-nosed player who will look to block or hit anything when he's not primarily involved in the play. He has a late gear to create separation and can win at all three levels. He's a big target with a big catch radius who needs to get stronger at the top of the route but offers a big downfield target. Best football is ahead of him.

  • Long frame, long strider who can eat up cushion in a hurry
  • Separates late on vertical routes
  • He'll hit someone in space as a run blocker
  • Can put foot in ground on quick slants to create separation; shows suddeness there
  • Shows high-point ability on vertical routes

Weaknesses:

  • Needs to be more physical at catch point
  • Can sometimes take extra steps trying to get off line instead of getting into body of press-man CB type
  • Can struggle to separate from physical/handsy DB types in red zone
  • Won't break many tackles in space

Combine Results:

  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.56 seconds
  • Vertical: 37 inches
  • Broad Jump: 11 feet, 1 inches
  • 3-Cone Drill: 7.03 seconds

  • Michael Jefferson: Cleared to look for NFL opportunity

Jefferson has been cleared to fly, meet with teams, take physicals and potentially sign with an NFL team, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Jefferson was involved in a multi-car crash April 9, and after multiple surgeries it was reported that he was expected to miss his entire rookie season. Though the former Louisiana standout's chances of being taken as a mid-round pick in April's draft were unfortunately eliminated, he has now made a faster recovery than expected and will look for a chance to ink a deal with an NFL club. The 6-foot-4, 199-pound wideout may be able to find a practice-squad opportunity early this season.

  • Michael Jefferson: Slated to miss rookie season

Jefferson, who was involved in a multi-car crash April 9, was released from the hospital Wednesday and is expected to miss the 2023 season while rehabbing from multiple surgeries, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Jefferson, a 23-year-old wide receiver who played collegiately at Louisiana, was seen a potential Day 3 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft before he was struck by a suspected drunk driver in Mobile, Ala. While the exact nature of the injuries Jefferson sustained in the car crash remain unclear, medical professionals have optimism that the wideout should be available to resume his playing career in the 2024 season, per Schefter. The 6-foot-4, 199-pound Jefferson caught 51 passes for 810 yards and seven touchdowns across 12 games during his final season with the Ragin' Cajuns.
