Vikings' Byron Murphy: Avoiding offseason knee surgery
Murphy said Jan. 7 that he suffered a Grade 3 MCL sprain in the Vikings' Week 15 loss to the Bengals, but he won't require surgery and expects to be fully healthy for OTAs, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The knee injury kept Murphy out for the final three weeks of the regular season, though Minnesota never officially placed him on injured reserve. When healthy, Murphy was easily the Vikings' most productive cornerback. In his first season of the two-year, $17.5 million deal that he signed with Minnesota this past offseason, the 26-year-old led the team in both passes defensed (13) and interceptions (three) while also compiling 57 tackles and a forced fumble over his 14 appearances. With a full offseason ahead of him, Murphy shouldn't face any restrictions heading into training camp and should open his second season in Minnesota in 2024 as a full-time starter.

Vikings' Byron Murphy: Continues to produce in Minnesota
Murphy recorded 57 total tackles, 13 pass deflections, including three interceptions, and one forced fumble in 14 games with the Vikings during the 2023 regular season.
Murphy was held out of the Vikings' last three games of the year due to a knee issue, but he was easily the team's most productive corner when healthy. In his first season of a two-year, $17.5 million deal that he signed with Minnesota this past offseason, the 26-year-old led the team in both pass deflections and interceptions. Murphy has struggled to stay on the field as of late though, missing 11 games over the past two seasons. Expect the Washington product to continue playing at a high level for the Vikings' defense in a contract-year in 2024.

Vikings' Byron Murphy: Won't return Week 18
Murphy (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Lions, Matthew Coller of The Purple Insider reports.
After another week of no practice participation, the 25-year-old cornerback is in line to miss his third consecutive game in Week 18. Andrew Booth and NaJee Thompson will likely see increased snaps in the Vikings' secondary with both Murphy and Mekhi Blackmon (shoulder) missing Sunday's affair.
