Alabama sophomore Lester Cotton, a blue chip prospect coming out of high school and five-game starter on the Tide's 2016 team, landed in legal trouble over the weekend.
Tuscaloosa police told WBRC Fox6 that Cotton was charged with second degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop around 11 p.m. on Friday. Cotton was one of two people in the vehicle and, according to the report, he's already been arrested, charged and released.
Alabama coach Nick Saban has not officially commented on the matter, but it's not good news for the 6-foot-4, 319-pound lineman who finished the season as a reserve.
With Cam Robinson off the to the NFL, there's a tackle spot open in the starting lineup. Freshman Jonah Williams had the starting nod over Cotton as a right tackle opposite Robinson at the end of last season, and redshirt freshman Matt Womack is expected to be in the mix as well.
Cotton may be a former four-star prospect, but so is almost everyone on the Tide's roster hoping to get starter's snaps in 2017.
